The boys had their six month evaluation for speech on Wednesday. I knew the boys were making great strides in speech, and thought maybe Nicholas wouldn't qualify anymore. He was first, and he didn't qualify. He tested at 20 months. There needs to be a seven month delay. We're at four. Then Anthony went and he too, tested out! I was a bit shocked! I certainly wasn't expecting it to say the least! I was somewhat upset! Why-I have no idea either! He too tested at 20 months.

When they first started only six months ago, they were evaluated at being at a 7/8 month level(which I still don't believe to this day...). And in six months-they are at a 20 month level. Nicholas has been putting two words together for awhile now. Anthony has started to do it more on his own. And the funny thing-not even a month ago the speech pathologist came out and said Anthony needed additional services-2 times/month because he was a bit behind Nicholas. And here we are-less than a month later-and he's fine! Yikes!

I am proud of them. Nicholas is saying new words everyday now, and he is even repeating things, on his own, that I have said. Anthony was much harder to work with, but he is now talking more and working with you. And cognitively they tested at 31 months! Whoohoo boys!

So I guess I'm not a horrible mother afterall! ;)

Trust me, it's a great thing that they've graduated!

And, I certainly hope kids with speech delays aren't a reflection on you as a parent...otherwise, I wouldn't stand a chance.

your post brought tears to my eyes ! I have one especially who is struggling with speech and it was wonderful to hear a success story. I all too well understand the mommy guilt. You must feel so inspired now to hear them talk and enjoy talking with them. Thanks for mentioning your story.

I honestly think, in due time, the boys will be fine. And the same goes for your child. I just think they have their own agenda. The therapist would come out week after week, and Anthony would spend his hour with her going, "Ehh!" It was like pulling teeth with him! But after their lessons, I noticed throughout the week, he would make great strides. Slowly, and on his own terms, but he certainly was doing it!

It really is neat. They are labeling almost everything when they see it. Now we are working on saying the full word vs the first syllable. Just keep working with your child, not just that one hour they have therapy for(or whatever it is). Big changes lay ahead! :)

You were never a bad mommy... only a good one for seeking the help they needed and following up to help them reach their potential! Yay for Nicholas & Anthony!
