    Horseradish sauce! Mmmmm...

We had fried oysters over the weekend with chili sauce and horseradish sauce for dips. Both boys looked at their oyster and loudly proclaimed it yucky without tasting... but they also declared their corn and their rice yucky and they eat those things on a regular basis so it was an attitude rather than an actual opinion. We started eating and they noticed everyone had dip except them so they demanded dip for their oysters. They did OK pouring the chili sauce with help but the horseradish was in a squeeze bottle and Trevor squeezed a bit hard and got a quarter-sized pile on his plate. He immediately scooped it up with his spoon and in spite of a warning that it's spicy, popped the entire blob in his mouth. His eyes got a bit wide and started to water but he took it like a man and swallowed. He then asked for some on his rice and Trent had to try that as well. So now they love horseradish sauce (and they happily ate their oysters). I asked DH how many 3-year olds he thinks eat oysters and horseradish sauce and he didn't think it would be very many.

Man, those boys have iron stomachs!

Joe is my spice-lover. We got some pepperoni with really good kick for our pizzas this week (had to try out that dough recipe ;) ) and I was surprised how spicy they were. Joe was all over them...I asked Nick if he wanted more and he gave me the 'I don't tink so, mommy'. After eating like 5 or 6 of them Joe stopped and declared he had a 'spicy mouth...HELP!' A couple gulps of milk and he was back at it. Yesterday he ate at least 1/2 a cup of the raw zucchini that I was attempting to shred for freezing. I don't understand why he can't gain any weight!

Wow! I agree that it's probably not very many kids who eat that. You never know what they'll like!

I wish I had some good stories to share, but my kids, alas, seem to have totally normal dietary preferences. Amy likes ketchup and/or butter on nearly everything -- Sarah does not eat condiments at all.

My boys will fight you tooth and nail for mustard, raw onions, and vinegar. Sean also eats hot salsa by the handful.

mine don't seem to like spicy things . . . however, they would eat an entire jar of capers if i let them, and they are VERY excited that their nana and opa are visiting right now because that means they get to eat smoked salmon and brie for breakfast with opa!

Wow, I can't say that the girls have given horseradish a try. One of mine loves sushi, it doesn't matter what it is she is willing to try. The other P likes only certain pieces (cooked with crab or shrimp). Next time we have an oyster roast I will have to offer up the sauce.
