they're turning one in five days

i've spent the last two weeks wondering where the first year went, sometimes tearing up and wishing i could slow everything down. i'm not ready for my baby boys to be toddlers! we're in the process of dropping bottles and it makes me so sad to leave those cuddly feedings behind. i wonder sometimes if the reason i feel like the good times flew by is because the first 6 months were so hard and i had such a hard time enjoying them.

Around the 3 month mark i remember thinking we would never survive the first year. preemies with severe reflux were a lot harder than i ever imagined they could be. it felt like drowning. then at the 6 month mark it was like suddenly and unexpectedly coming up for air. and things got so good so fast that i'm sad about putting babyhood behind us.

it's amazing that in one year human beings go from this

to this.

for mamas still in the thick of it: it does get better. it gets so good. you will survive these hard early days and you'll be so glad you did.


p.s. the number one thing i'm looking forward to in year 2: THE END OF REFLUX! :yahoo: (hopefully)

What a great post! Mine will be 9 months tomorrow but I feel I could write the same thing in 3 months. The first 6 months were definitely hard! Mine had reflux as well (my son really bad) but luckily when they turned 6 months it magically seemed to stop. It is definitely amazing how much they grow and change in one year's time. It is bittersweet for sure.

That first year IS amazing! Too bad it usually goes by in such a blur when you have twins! :lol: They are adorable!

 

The first year goes by so fast. I was sad to see it over as well. The bad news is that the 2nd year goes by just as quickly as the first. But you know what they say, time flies when you are having fun! That must be the reason!

 

Oh your post made me tear up - I think about this all the time. How do they go from these tiny babies to curious, energetic, loving little people in just one year? It's amazing. My DH is even starting to get emotional when he sees me buying 12 mos. sleepers for the lo's because in his mind he would still go out and buy the 3-6 mos. ones. It goes by too quickly. Your boys are beautiful! Congratulations on making it through the first year.
