They're too young for this right?

Two weeks ago, maybe three now I can't remember, my lo's dropped their 5th bottle and added a solid meal during the day. So 4 bottles, 2 solid meals. For the last couple of days, they've been eating so much during their first solid meal of the day that they've dropped the 4th bottle and have only had 3 bottles a day of about 7-8 ounces each. They did it on their own and didn't demand that bottle I usually give them (of only about 4 or 5 ounces anyway) about an 1 1/2 hours after their meal. Now it's 24 ounces of formula a day and 2 large solid meals. Normally I would worry about hydration, but they've mastered the sippy cup with a straw and love plain water now so I offer that periodically and let them have as much as they want. Wet/dirty diapers are the same as always and everyone is happy and energetic. Weight is normal for both babies - 21 lbs (DD) and 19 pounds (DS). Do I go with this or are they too young to only take 3 bottles a day at 8 1/2 months? Thanks!

    New Feeding Schedule:
    6:30a - 8 ounce bottle
    8:30a - nap (1 hour)
    9:30a - water after nap
10:00a - solid meal, finger foods, water
    12:30ish - nap (1 hr)
    1:30 or 2:00p - 8 ounce bottle
3:30 or 4:00 - maybe a quick nap for DS
4:30 or 5:00p - solid meal, finger foods, water
    7:00p - 8 ounce bottle
7:15 - bed (both sttn until 6 or so)

I would go with their lead. If they are still having wet/dirty diapers and are willing to take 8 ounces, 3 times a day then that sounds good to me. If you're concerned that it's not enough you could always put a call in to the nurse at your pedi's office to ease your mind.

I agree with checking things over with your pedi if your concerned but i also wanted to share with you that my girls did the very same thing at 7months old!! I still offered the 4th bottle for about a month but they refused point blank to drink it so i have just had to accept that they don't want it. They usually eat between 500ml and 600ml for the day which i think is on the lowest end of the amount the require for the day. There cereal is made up from formula so that gives us a topup. You could continue to offer it for a while to see if they change their minds but mine wouldn't budge, once they decided they didn't want it.

I agree with following their lead. It sounds like they are doing great & you aren't concerned about weight gain so I wouldn't worry about it too much. They'll let you know if they aren't getting enough.

Thanks everyone! It may be a fluke but I would be so happy if they stuck to this schedule! We'll see how it goes.
