I would like to introduce Isaiah William Charles and Elijah Henry Benoit. They were born on Saturday, February 10, 2007 with Isaiah at 2:23pm and weighing 5lbs, 9oz, and Elijah at 2:26pm and weighing 5lbs, 4oz.

The birth was pretty good. The whole labour lasted almost 24 hours from the time I went into the hospital thinking that my water had broke but found out that I was already at 4cm. When I was being assessed they found that Elijah was lying transverse and it was suggested to my by the doctors that I should have an epidural (in case any complications arose like Elijah still being transverse and that he might be turned manually). I opted to wait on the epi for a bit first though and eventually I decided I will go with their suggestion because I thought "what if I have to go for an emergency c-section?" In the end though, it turned out that both boys would be delivered naturally.

They were whisked away to NICU not long after because they were borderline preemies. I was 35 weeks and 3 days when I went into the hospital. The doctors wanted to make sure that they could regulate their own body temps, breath fine on their own and could feed on their own before they were released from NICU. We spent almost a week at the hospital before they were allowed to go home. I got to nurse Elijah first a few hours after he was born and Isaiah the next day. I didn't really like that I couldn't nurse them right away but the doctors were worried that they wouldn't be able to nurse on their own just yet. We proved them wrong! Elijah latched on beautifully as did Isaiah. Our only obstacle now is that they tire easily at the breast since they are not quite strong yet. Do you ladies have any suggestions on nursing preemie babies?

I'm so happy to have my boys here....and so is big brother, Greyson.

Congratulations! Glad to hear things are going well.

I didn't nurse but hopefully you will get some great advice about the tiring. K&K were always tired when eating, we had to do alot of neck tickling, toe tickling etc to keep them awake for an entire feeding.

When my boys were small I would nurse them, pump, and then feed them the bottle. I used platex bottles with the bags, so then I could squeeze the bag to keept them eating when they were too tired. Eventually I pumped a feeding ahead so I would nurse, feed bottle, then pump for next time. In less than 2 weeks they had nursing down.

Congratulation on the birth of you boys!! Also congratulations on your breastfeeding. Its normal for a baby to get tired from breastfeeding. Enjoy the sleep!! If they are falling asleep while on your breast try stimulation, rubbing their feet, arms etc. If they still need farther stimulation you can try undressing them until they are finished. As long as they are having 6-8 wet or poopy diapers then they are getting enought to eat and you can enjoy some sleep while they are. The extra sleep wont last long! Congratulations again
