They're here!

Hey everyone! On Wednesday, August 11th my little angels were born via c-section! We welcomed Owen Christopher into the world first at 8:00am on the dot, and Voisie Jean was delivered a minute later at 8:01am. The beautiful boy Owen was 6 lbs and 14 oz, and our little girl Voisie was 6 lbs and 4 oz! We were 38 weeks and 4 days along when the babies came!

While I was in recovery, Voisie was fed some formula because of a low blood sugar but has not had any blood sugar problems since. Owen had a wet cry and was breathing a bit fast at birth. There was talk of not having him with us in our room until the following day, but my nurse wanted me to get my skin to skin contact and brought him to me for a breast feeding - after this, his breathing went down significantly and he seemed to be doing much better! He had labs done that showed signs of an infection, so while he got to stay in my room he was also taken periodically to have antibiotics given through his IV. The IV was only in for a bit less than 48 hours before they removed it. By Friday evening, when they were weighed, their weights were a bit low and they had pretty low, but not low enough, levels of jaundice found when they did tcbs, so Friday night and all Saturday we've had to do formula supplements along with the breast feeding. Sunday morning at 10:30 am they will check weights and levels again and we're hoping they will be good enough to take off the formula so we can breast feed exclusively.

We have been at home since about 2:30 this afternoon (Saturday) and the babies have been healthy otherwise! Now if only I could heal faster from this C-section, we'd be in business!

I suppose now's the time for me to move on to the 1st year group - but I will leave you all with a couple pictures of Voisie and Owen!
