Everyone* keeps telling me how great it is that my boys have a "built in playmate" and how they will "entertain each other." And that will make it easier for me...

Except that "playing together" consists of trying to eat each other, pull each other's eyes out, and kicking each other in the face/privates/stomach/behind/etc.

I just think it is soooo funny how everyone has this idyllic image in their minds of them playing peacefully, holding hands, loving on each other, etc. when the reality is me constantly breaking them up because they are thumping each other!!!

Mine to that too, it's so funny. but it's almost that they ask for it. Jr will get kicked by Sierra so I'll pull them apart a bit, he'll make his way back over to her though. They pick on eachother, but it's their way of playing I think. As they get older I'm sure the playing will hopefully be a bit less rough :D

It's my entertainment (geez I have no life) <_<

It does happen eventually....but not all the time. (I have a vision of the knock down drag out my kids had on Sunday :) )

 Maybe it is a boy thing bc DS is always trying to pick on DD - stealing toys, hitting her with toys, pulling her hair/ears/nose, pinching, etc. DD doesn't do as much of that stuff. It is getting better though with the playing as they get bigger. I think it is more the comfort of not being alone when left to play than anything... not so much the playing "together" per se.

It does happen, but more between 2.5 and 3. There's a loooooong time before that where they don't entertain each other. Once they do, though, it's great (until they fight).

Mine do tend to try to eat and kick and pick out eyes on each other, but lately they'll also just sit and 'talk' to each other. Just yesterday while I was out, DH got on video DD just laughing at DS. He really wasn't doing anything, but she would look at him and just start laughing. That made him laugh. It was really cute.

I think the crawling over, eye poking, eating phase right now is just their way of exploring each other.

It is a nice thought and it does sometimes happen here, but mostly they play next to each other or fight.

No joke! Reese had her entire hand across Ryders face and a leg over his back and the poor guy was just crying his little eyes out and Reese looked at me like- what mama? But dont feel too sorry for Ryder because whatever toy Reese has he takes no matter what. I think eventually they will work it out, I hope!

So far, that's all that's happening here too. They do notice each other and laugh, maybe splash with each other in the tub, but mostly Riley tackles Reese or they steal toys from one another. It's still fun, though. I think it's strange that it doesn't seem to bother either one of them when they get kicked or smacked or scratched. Like it's always been that way.

We have figured out the secret to "them entertaining each other" is to strap them in and then put them to where they face each other, but can't reach each other. :) Bouncy seats, highchairs, anything with restraints... They talk, make faces, laugh, and especially do the ear piercing squeal, but it keep them happy for long enough for me to get a few things done without the constant chorus of "stop hitting your brother", "don't kick your brother's soft spot", "get off your brother he can't breathe!"

Mine do play with each other, but they also beat the tar out of each other sometimes. But the hugs and kisses they give each other are precious.

Mine are still pretty young compared to most here, but dd always steals toys from ds - but he doesn't mind - yet! I am sure he will in time. They also explore each other by clawing at the others face, but for the most part they don't seem to mind it... yet!

Like the others said, it will happen!!

Just takes some time. Not to say we don't have an all out biting, hair pulling fighting over toys incident every once in a while!
