I just wanted to say thank you to all who replied to my post a few days ago about my mounting frustration with the whole eating process.

Yesterday at lunch the girls CLEANED THEIR PLATES!!! For the first time EVER that I can remember! I was so proud, I took a picture and sent it to my husband at work. ahhh....even if they don't do it again for a long, long time, at least I know it is possible!

I still think i will check into that book that a couple of ppl mentioned. It sounds like it will help me turn around MY thinking about the whole eating thing.

Phew...one hurdle jumped. Now, just have to work on those teething, cold, and night waking problems... :p

That's great news--I know how good it feels! Feeding can be SOOO frustrating. I am letting my two have more control over the whole process rather than trying to control it. It's hard! I wish I could be the one deciding how much they eat and when, but I guess it doesn't work that way ;-).
Good luck. Every day (make that every meal) is an adventure!

    That's great!

I know for us a relaxed attitude about eating has made a big difference for our kids... it can be such a power struggle and hard to let go as they start to get more independent. There's still days where they don't want to eat and they throw their food all over the place, but I just try to turn a blind eye and trust that they'll eat when they're hungry and I will just keep offering nutritious food.

    WTG girls!!! :clapping:

I think this is one of the hardest things I've had to do as a parent: trust that they will eat when they're hungry, and get what they need. I knew I didn't want to have power struggles at the dinner table, and wanted my kids to develop feeding competence, but it took reading Child of Mine (when the boys turned 1) to give me the push I needed. I still go back and read sections to this day, and go on to Ellyn Satter's website to keep me encouraged. :)
