Even though I went to the OB at 30 weeks complaining of increased contractions and cramping, my FFN was negative (I was assured there was a "less than 1% chance" of going into labor in the next two weeks) and the boys passed their NST just fine.

Well I'm not one to go with the majority, and I guess my boys aren't either, because they took that "less than 1% chance" and decided 31 weeks was a fine day to be born!

I had a sharp contraction at 7 pm, followed by a very heavy bleed and a fast increase in contractions. Paramedics arrived at my home by 7:20 pm and I was taken by ambulance to the local hospital. By the time I was at the hospital, contractions were one minute apart, and I was dilated enough that my OB could feel Baby A's placenta. She told me I had to deliver immediately.

I was prepped for a section and just 2 hours and 33 minutes after the first contraction (9:33 pm), Ace Robert came into the world feet first. He weighed 3 pounds 11 ounces and was 16 1/4" long. Nate Karsen followed at 9:34 pm with a little cry and weighed 4 pounds 7 ounces and was 17" long.

    Their 1, 5 and 10 minute apgars were: Ace -- 4, 5, 8; Nate -- 5, 6, 8

They were airlifted to Seattle at 1:30 am on October 20th, after being stabilized enough for transport.

I remained in our home hospital for recovery and my husband traveled to Seattle to be with the boyd (2 hours from home). The boys were doing progressively better, but I ended up having my section re-opened on Sunday night due to increasing pain and contractions. After a second "clean out", I re-started my recovery.

They boys have been doing fabulous -- we simply cannot believe how fortunate we have been thus far in our NICU adventure. I have had a lot ofpain due to the two surgeries, but was finally released yesterday and saw my boys for the first time today. It was incredible.

There's so much more to tell, but as you can imagine, days are long and busy and time is short. My husband has posted several wonderful pictures at our web site: http://www.cronck.com and I am working on catching up on my journaling at http://sommer.cronck.com

Delivery was unexpected, fast and very scary, but it's all been worth it. I look forward to the journey ahead.

Congrats on your babies! It sounds like they're great sizes for their age, and that their Apgars went up quite well. Hope you can recover and be with them soon. I know it must be hard being away from them... :hug99:

Congratulations and welcome to the "1% club" (I also got a negative on my FFN a week before going into labor at 27.4 weeks). Have you been able to go to Seattle to be with your babies yet? Their weights sound fabulous for being 31 weekers, and I hope they are doing well and have a short hospital stay.

Congratulations on your baby boys! I'm so sorry you have to be seperated right now though. That must be so incredibly difficult. You all will be in my prayers for a short NICU stay.
