They LOVE this!

My guys have been loving their matchbox cars and Thomas trains for sometime now. They loved pushing the cars around on the carpet, and trains around on the track, but would often argue over space (yes, even on the floor!!!! )

So I looked into getting them a train table. But, being the frugal types, thought they were all too much for what you were getting. (IMO!!) So, I thought of making the boys one!!

So my DH got a piece of wood that would fit perfectly on top of their sand table (also made by DH!). We designed both roads and rails on it, which he cut out with a router. Once that was done, I got to do the fun part by painting it.

We bought some bridges and a toll booth to add to it, and just loved the end result.

BUT most importantly, the boys absolutely LOVE it!!! They play on it daily, it is the first thing they go to in the morning while I am getting breakfast ready.

It was really easy to do, and just wanted to share in case I could inspire anyone else out there!!

That is great! We have an old coffee table that we could easily do that to. All we would have to do is paint a board and secure it to the top. Hmmm....weekend project?????

That is so cool!! I love that it fits on top of your sand table. I was looking at train tables but they take up so much room! Our playroom already has a climber in it, so there isint a huge amount of room left. I would love something that does double duty like yours.

I know you said it was easy, but I am completely un-handy and un-crafty, so it looks hard to me! It would take me a whole month of procrastinating just to buy the paint.
