They LOVE, LOVE, LOVE public toilets

It started with me needing to make an emergency bathroom stop at a gas station. I took the boys in and had them go while we were there. The next time we drove by that same station, they pointed at it and insisted that they needed to pee-pee potty right there and then sat and swung their legs for a couple of minutes before squeezing out a few dribbles. Fast forward through several trips where I ask them if they need to go before leaving the last store on our stops (it's a good 20 or 30-minute drive home from everywhere for us) and they've suddenly become obsessed with using the public toilets. We were in Lowe's today and every exit door we walked past was pointed at and the question asked, "Potty there, Mommy?" When we got through the checkout, the toilets are right there so we went in and they were JUBILANT even though they clearly didn't need to go yet. I think 80% of the thrill for them is washing their hands in the automatic sinks.

Are my guys weird or what? I thought kids were supposed to have some fear of strange toilets.

Mine love public restrooms. I think it is the novelty of it all. They don't like the auto flushing toilets necessarily, but they work together to keep them from going off (one holds his/her hand over the sensor while the other pees; then they switch). Anyways, we have checked out every toilet in every Target, Kohls, mall, you name it!

Sounds like healthy, toddler fascination to me. :D

That's really funny! Hey, if it makes going on the potty fun, it's got to be a good thing right? (Although, maybe a pain for you if they insist on pulling into every gas station in town when you are driving! )

Nope, not weird. Well, weird, yes, but apparently normal. My Jade needs to check out every potty in every store and restaurant, even if she doesn't have to go. Melissa, OTOH, has public potty phobia and I guess she's the weird one. I have an inflatable potty in my car primarily in case she needs to go while we are out.

Mine love public restrooms too, though fortunately they haven't figured out yet that nearly every store or restaurant has a bathroom. They only want to go to the ones we frequent (the cafe, the library, etc.). They also want me to hold them on the potty and they often pee that way, even though they will never pee on the big potty at home.

I guess it's good that they're excited about it, though it's sure a PITA to get them undressed and re-dressed just so they can tinkle.

Same here. Like a pp, they haven't figured out that all places have bathrooms. But like clockwork any time we go out to dinner, they have to go. I've learned to just take them at the same time, before that I would get to the table and the other would need to go check it out. What really makes me made is after sitting back down they need to go again about 10 minutes later and when I take Brooke - she never produces - that really frustrates me!!!
