That can I do to get my babies to live tummy time. They get super fussy and cry within a couple of minutes. I have tried entertaining them and keeping them distracted, but even that doesn't last long. I know tummy time is important so does anyone have any suggestions?

Mine didn't like tummy time at all either. A couple things I tried were: place them on their bellies facing each other- that keeps them entertained. elevate their chest with a pillow (maybe a nursing pillow). getting a toy for belly time so they have something to look at. place them on their belly on your chest.
dr. said it's as good as tummy time if when reclining with my knees bent i place them facing me (so their back is supported on my legs) or hold them on my lap facing outward.
don't worry they'll get the hang of it. it's just a matter of time.

Mine didn't like tummy time either....but you need to just keep with it. It will be worth it in the end when their neck muscles are nice and strong. Like pp said.....prop a pillow under them or let them face eachother.....thats the best things to do.

I think most babies hate tummy time, just try several times a day for a minute here and a minute there. Like the pps said put something under thier arms it usually helps some. Mine screamed everytime until they learned how to roll over, as soon as that happened they were always on their tummys

I agree about the pillow. Try a boppy pillow and give them something to look at when they lift their heads. They do better when you make it a little easier for them.

I would also suggest getting on the floor with them. Mine liked it when I was in front of them.

My sons pedi just told me to give them tummy time twice a day for 5 minutes at a time and give them more and extend it longer until they wanted to be on their tummies. It took until about 5 months and by 6.5 months they were crawling and sitting. Good Luck!

Laying them on their tummys on your or dh's tummy counts as tummy time too. They will eventually like it.

My boys hate it as well, but for the past few weeks I've been really determined to make them learn to tolerate it so they can develop their muscles. We've made it part of our routine after daytime feeding that they spend time on their tummies. Most often they scream and cry and I try to entertain them, and sometimes they'll prop their heads up and look around for a few minutes, then cry. I've noticed the past couple days they seem to spend more time being happy on their tums, so I think they are getting used to the routine. Occasionally I'll prop them up in a Boppy facing each other, but they are always on a blanket with lots of toys spread around them for them to look at.

    HI,

most babies don't like tummy time, I think. you just gotta persevere cause it helps them with so many things developmentally -- I just did it numerous times a day since it didn't last long.

I started putting a mirror in front of them on the floor so they could look at themselves and that made it easier.

    Cheers,
