I'm getting a bit concerned here as I keep throwing out the food I prepare for them......they only like cheerios. Are there any other foods I can give them to finger feed but at the same time get nutrition from it? I don't think they're getting much from the cheerios. Can cheerios replace the oatmeal I'm trying to feed them (but keep throwing out)?

Also, in the times that they DO eat, my DD ONLY eats fruit. Any bit of another taste in there and she's spitting it out - help! What should I do? I'm hoping it's going to pass, but it's been awhile already that she's doing this.

Anyone else have babies like this who gave them a run for their money when it came to eating??

Any advice would be much appreciated!

When mine have been like that I just keep trying the same foods over and over. When I get tired I feed them Cheerios. My DS now will eat many other things; however, he want it Cheerios anymore. Who knows? I would suggest just keep giving them that taste and practice. Have you tried Eggo waffles and pancakes? My two love them. I also give them toast with apple butter and grilled cheese sandwiches. Mine have been entirely on table food since 10 months. Just thought I would share some of their favorites with you. Good luck!

How much formula are they getting? At around 9 months, my ped said to start decreasing the formula down to 16oz, and increasing the solids, because they need to start transitioning from getting most of their nutrition from solids instead of formula. I would try decreasing their formula a little bit at a time, until they get better at the solids. And keep trying, they will get it!! :hug99:

Good idea, thanks, I will try that! My DS just finally started taking more formula, so I'm happily filling up 4-5 oz bottles for him (I know that sounds like a little, but for him it's a lot - he was barely taking anything till recently). Maybe I really should give less. And thanks for the encouragement!

Mine will really only eat food that they can feed themselves at this point. They are not impressed with babyfood & don't want to be spoon fed. So, I try to give them cereal with fruit in the morning but the rest of the time they just get finger food. As for nutrition, they are still getting most from their formula which, as Becky said, I need to start reducing. I use the Heinz Nutrios instead of Cheerios because they have a lot more iron but, other than that, they get what we eat.

My twins were very small eaters also, so I can relate to being excited when they finally hit the 5oz mark!! I would only decrease it by an oz or so for right now, and replace it with the food.

I give our girls one food at a time during meals. First I try to feed them a thing of baby food. Since they aren't big fans of me feeding them anymore they barely touch it. Then I give them a fruit or veggie. They LOVE cut up green beans (I just buy the cans of Del Monte cut ones), then I give them fruit, usually diced Gerber apples or pineapple (again I buy the canned tidbits), then I give them some cheese then the "main dish" (usually chicken, turkey, fish sticks or ravioli).

I have found that if I give them things one at a time they eat more of each thing. If I give them everything at once they only eat one thing.

You may have to go cold turkey on the cheerios - or wait till the end of the meal to give them to them.

You can feed them pretty much anything as long as it is cut in small pieces and easily mushed by their gums.

Thank u all for your help! I just bought 30 dollars worth of jars - uh-oh!

Do you give them bread at this age? I was told no eggs till a year - that does only refer to eggwhites? I really have no guidance here, so sorry I sound so ignorant! The nurse practitioner who told me about the eggs also said no food that have eggs in them. Did you follow that rule too, at nine months?

My girls LOVE bread! You can also take some baby food and spread it on the bread. Then use a pizza cutter (the best tool in your kitchen) to cut it into small piece for them to eat.

They'll eat all the baby food eventually. My goal is to get one jar in a feeding - sometimes I do but most times it is 1 jar a day.
