They dont know how to eat popsicles?

I have given them a popsicle on a couple of occasions and they just hold it or drop it. Did anyone have to teach their kiddos how to eat a popsicle? I thought they were born with a behavior to devour any "treat". Any thoughts??

 

Like anything else, they have to learn. One of the easiest ways is for you to eat one and let them have tastes--that way you see if they like it, and you are modeling how to eat it at the same time. Also, look for "junior" pops, they are basically smaller, so don't melt as much before they can eat it. We also saved pops for outside until they were around 3--that way the mess was easier to handle.

 

Mine just ate their first successful popsicle at about 2.5. Granted I hadn't really tried many times, but the few times that I did, they either tried to bite it (and hurt their teeth) or just dropped it.

 

my little neighbour is getting three in summer and he loves to eat popsicle,
but is a really slow-eater so i always give him a little plate or a cup, so if the ice melts it doesn't
make a big mess.
i've often tried to tell him, that he should lick once around the whole ice if it melts but he always
forgets or doesn't like to.
but i'm quite sure one day he'll learn it!! XD
