    Hello Ladies

Well the boys will be 17m (15 corrected) tomorrow and while they can walk. They just choose not to. without my prodding they would rarely do it. They'll be across the room and I'll say walk to mommy and they will but if I don't say it they will just crawl.

Once in awhile they walk like crazy and I'll think ok they got it and the next day they won't walk at all.

I guess I just want to know if anyone else had kids who could walk but won't do it and what I can do to encouarge them to walk more. I walk around the house holding there hands just to get them doing it more, I give lots of praise when they do walk and have wondered it I should act more nonchalante (sp?) about it.

Sorry this got kinda long, any advice would be great

    Thanks

    Erica

I wouldn't worry too much -- it is pretty normal for kids to prefer crawling even after they can walk. They're more used to crawling and it's just faster for them! I think you're doing the right thing by encouraging them to walk, so they can practice, but don't get too worked up about it. One thing you could try is putting some enticing toys on top of a chair or coffee table, so they have to stand up to play with them. That will get them more used to being upright.

My twinnies are 15 months actual. DD has been walking forever but DS is a bit slower. He started taking steps about 6 weeks ago and for the last month will walk from DH to me if we coax/prod/bribe him but still uses crawling as his primary mode of transportation. The pedi said not to worry (at our 15 month well baby check). 2 days ago he was holding a toy and trying to crawl when he just all the sudden pushed up off the floor, stood, took a few steps and then plopped down on his butt. It's like something clicked and he finally realized that walking is a mode of tranportation not just something to do to get praise and since then he has been practicing like a madman. I think it will likely be the same for your twins, they just have to put that final piece together and they'll take off.

My twin nieces are 17 months old (16mos adjusted) and one just started to walk about a month ago. The other CAN walk, I've seen her take 5-7 steps here and there, but she prefers to walk on her knees. That's just her way of getting around! It's quite cute, actually! :D I think they will get it, in their own time.

I thought one of my girls was the only Knee-Walker!! They both walked at 14 months but Baylinn decided to walk only on her knees for another 2 months after that.

    EXACTLY what happened to me!

It was frustrating cuz I knew they could walk. In fact, they COULD walk all over the house IF they wanted to! It drove me nuts!

They did that for about 2 weeks and now they're full time walkers at 15 months, 14 corrected.

As long as they CAN do it.. I wouldn't be too concerned.

This Sat they just picked up and started to do it all of the time.

    They'll get there. Trust me!

I wouldnt worry about it , they sound fine to me. They are used to crawling and to them they get their faster whilst crawling so why should they walk!! When sophie first started walking she used to do it when we wernt watching but as soon as she spotted us she would stop and start crawling again!! x

Thanks for the advice ladies, I held off worrying for the longest time but finally it just got to me. Hopefully I'll be posting about my full time walkers soon.
