anyone have this problem? they learn one name and they both think they go by that name. they point to themselves and each other. if i say owen, owen knows i mean him and jacob doesn't respond. if i say jacob, jacob knows i'm talking to him and owen doesn't respond. but if i say "where's owen" it's total pandemonium. owen points at jacob, jacob points at owen, then jacob points at a picture of himself and says "owee." and if i show them a picture of both of them they point at both the toddlers in the photo and each other and say "owee."

i've only gotten owen to say jacob once ("bacob") and jacob has never said his own name. how do i convince them that there's only one owee... i mean owen?

i wouldn't worry about it, they'll figure it out eventually - my girls mix it up all the time too! but when i call for just one of them, the right one always responds. i think it's pretty normal for twins.

I agree, they will figure it out in time. I would just keep pointing to each one & saying their name & eventually they will learn the difference. It's kind of cute really! Oh, and my Owen used to get called Owee by his younger sister too.

My two just got out of this phase over the past couple of months. For the longest time they both were "Aki" Now she calls herself "phia" and he calls himself "uke" They do get past it.
Owee must be a popular nickname because that is what my two calls my BF's youngest boy!

My Owen was also "Owee" when they were itty bitty. Now my 20 month old calls him that:). My Owen had the hardest time understanding that he didn't have the same middle name as his twin. He thought George's middle name was his, too. It never occurred to him to think that perhaps they both had his middle name (they don't, they each have their own).:)

i just feel bad for jacob because no one ever gets to be him. when we read books with pictures of little boys jacob points and says "boy" and owen points and says "owee." hmm... maybe i'm raising an egomaniac!

Our pedi said she wouldn't worry if they answered to each others names, as long as they weren't answering to "Bob" or "Daddy" or "hey you" and not one of their names.

I think it's pretty normal for children of this age to over-generalize. "Owen" is probably easier to say than "Jacob" so they picked that as their generic boy name. My guys say "Mama" all the time when pointing out women in magazines; same thing with "Dada" and random men. Jack went through a phase where he said "Nate" when we asked who he was, but he got over it eventually. :)

Also, I think your guys are ID, right? They may actually have a hard time picking out who is who in pictures. My guys get confused by photos of themselves sometimes, and they look NOTHING alike! :D

My girls do this all the time. I will ask 'Where is Jordyn?' and they will both point at each other. Sometimes they get it and sometimes they don't. I say it's completely normal. :)

That's so cute! I started the bad habits of calling my kids "sis" and "bubba". They will call each other sis and bubba, but not by their names. They never try to say the opposite though. Abby never says sis and just looks shy if I point to her in the mirror and try to get her to say either sis or abigail. Same with Ethan. I think it must be a phase or something. Abby used to walk around the house saying Abigail, Abigail, Abigail, when she was closer to a year old. Now she's all shy? Maybe it's just a stage. Your boys sound so cute

Awww your post made me smile! Too cute! My two know their own name but my DS points to himself when I say where is mommy! Sooo I guess he thinks he is mommy & jared! LOL! And sometimes when I walk into a room he'll call out and cheer DADA! **SIGH** I think what's going on is that I've shown him so many times that I am mommy by putting my hand to my chest that when I say where's mommy he puts HIS hand to HIS chest and says mommy...essentially copying me. Maybe that is something that is going on with your two with them pointing??

hopefully my DS will figure it out eventually...LOL..
