    Hi All,

The twins have a fascination with the kitchen garbage. At first they were just throwing diapers, wrappers and things in there...being HELPERS FOR MOMMY! Now they are throwing EVERYTHING in! The other day our nanny was upset because she couldn't find her shoes. We looked through the whole house and then I mentioned, "Well, the twins have been throwing EVERYTHING away, let's check the garbage." Well it was garbage night so we had to search through 3 yucky bags...and VOILA! There they were at the bottom of the first garbage bag I checked.

I know things have gone missing...now I know that we will never see them again because the twins threw them away. How to stop this??

    Bridget :fool:

we had this problem. We just moved the trashcan so it was out of their reach. It's in our kitchen and used to be by the gate, now it's on the other side of the kitchen and they can't reach it.

Can you move the trashcan? I know it will be an inconvenience, but if you could put it where they can't get to it (garage, pantry with a lock at the top) that might help.

    OR

You might want to go out and buy them a cheap trashcan and let them know that one is theirs to put whatever they want in it, but yours is off limits.

We have had the same problem with DS for awhile now. I gave him a certain place he can throw his "trash" away. He sometimes still throws none trash items in the main garbage but it has gotten better. Although, my keys have been missing for a couple weeks, I hope he didn't throw them away in the real trash. ;)

We have the same problem, except it wasn't the trash, it was the diaper champ they were throwing stuff into. That's another one for "you know your a twin mom when"... when you see one child throwing toys into the diaper pail while your changing another, and realize you're helpless to stop it!

I'm sorry, I had to laugh. we're in the throwing phase, but yesterday my daughter got into my billfold and next thing I know I'm pulling some credit cards & my social sec. card out of the garbage along with my checks! (i know, social sec. card is not supposed to be in my wallet) Yes, can you move it somewhere they have no access to? Other than close supervision... guidance to what is appropriate to throw away. HTH

I think this is a GREAT idea, and yours seem old enough to get it. Mine aren't old enough to quite grasp that...We keep our kitchen garbage under a child-proofed locked cabinet. In the bathrooms we got trashcans with lids on them. I thought that would stop them from getting into them. And it did. For about an hour before they figured out how to lift the lid. Then I bought these multipurpose latches from Target. We just keep it locked during times the boys would have access to it. (I love these latches...they are on all our toilets, & sliding shower doors)

Just wanted you to know that mine are doing it too. All of their toys, sippy cups, & dishes are going into the trash. They get in phases though, so whey they are being bad about it, I put my trash up on the counter or something. Then they forget about it for a while. Sorry, no better advice. Good luck! :)

    It's a phase.
Ours threw away Daddy's wallet - complete with about $100, credit cards and driver's license. We were at a hotel and only realized hours after the maids had emptied the trash. :(

My son did this at that age. We lost hats, keys, remotes, you name it. We started turning it backwards and scolding. My twins have started to show interest in it and helped me throw away trash. Now I am hoping I didn't create a repeat of my son's old behavior!

No real advice. We finally just gave up and started putting the trash can on the counter when they're up.

I still only have 3 butter knives... I bet you can't guess where the rest went! I say hide the trashcan and give them one of their own, at least if they throw it away it will be in "their" can.
