I took the girls to storytime at the library today and as we were walking out I passed a woman talking to another lady. As I passed by she started laughing and telling the other lady, "I certainly wouldn't want TWO!" followed by "hahahaha". I guess it would be different if she had said it to me and I could have said something back, but she was talking about me in front of me, but not to ME. (did ya catch that? lol). It just irked me.

Well I certainly wouldn't want her as a mother! I'm a big believer in god gives us only what we can handle. This is why I don't have triplets.

Some people just don't use their brain to process what comes out of their mouth!

Those bother me too. I was also at storytime and two mothers were talking next to me. One said something about her SIL expecting or having twins, and the other started with the "Oh my God! Could you imagine THAT???" And I said "Oh, I can't imagine having twins.", pointing out my two. I wanted to nip it in the bud before it got to the "oh how awful", I just didn't feel like hearing it. I also had someone at Target, in full earshot of her little girl, say how she would run away and leave the babies to her husband if she had twins. That's real nice.

the filter between the butthole and mouth sometimes shuts down on some people - HONESTLY!!!

I'd have turned around at the library and made a comment about how only the right people are blessed with twins!

You know? It doesn't bother me much because I think to myself "it's because YOU couldn't handle it!"
I really believe that. People who think we have it SO bad are just thinking this because THEY couldn't do it . . . and thank God I got my2!

I had a similar thing happen to me the other day at a local children's museum. It really gets under my skin, too! I tried to ignore them, but it was really hard. I finally had to get my girls to move onto something else to get away from them.

I love that someone referred to her as a "wanker". That made me laugh out loud!

I get comments like that a lot and I have actually started to enjoy them in strange way. I think there is a hint of envy in those comments and they sort of make me feel like super mom for having 2 at a time . The person who makes comments like that usually find that having one child is really difficult so when they see a mom of twins they wonder "how we do it". We rock! :)

People suck. I had a lady behind me a a line one day tell her friend if she ever found out she was having twins she would have an abortion.

Would have been nice if as you were passing her, you could have turned to her and said, good thing you didn't have them then...hahahaha and walked on. She probably would have felt pretty dumb ;) But then again, sometimes there's just no point even acknowledging people like that.

I also like what Jersey girl said and I agree that there may be some sort of envy of our SUPERMOTHER of twins powers. To be able to walk along with our twins and be happy and smiling about it is something to be very proud of!!

I think it's sad that people only see the "bad" and not the "good" with twins. Of course it's hard! But look at how much more joy and love we get!!! If I have the opportunity I try to tell them that in some way or another. :)

Erin, I choose to believe that the meaning behind comments are that they are in AWE of US and our abilities to manage twins (and more in some cases) and they are jealous! :D Might be wishful thinking, but I like it!! I also just assume that the rest of their life is a disaster and that's why they couldn't handle it!

I cannot believe someone would actually say that. CANNOT. I guess some people are just born without brains...

Love all of the responses, ladies. And I think it is true, they are just mesmerized by us :D

Sometimes I think people say it because they are jealous. The next time someone makes a remark like that to me (or near me), I'm just going to say, "I thank God that He chose ME to bless with twins and not you since you obviously don't understand what a gift they are." I wonder what the response will be. I try not to, but I feel that I was "chosen" when God gave me my identical boys. Raising twins is awesome and to watch their relationship with each other? PRICELESS!!! I wish I had that with a sibling!

I used to hate those comments, now I just ignore them and think "yea Im glad it's not you either" I remember at the beginning of my pregnancy my month board was talking about twins and so many said they'd love to have twins and I came off with the "oh no just one please" even though I had prayed that when DH and I got pregnant I wanted b/g twins...not thinking my prayers would have ever been answered lol.

I think the fear of 2 babies is one I didn't realize I had until after I had them. When I looked back I could honestly see me saying "wow I can't imagine" but never the "glad its not me" comments. People just do not think. I get "my your hands are full" ALL the time. Or "boy you sure are a busy one" It depends on my mood as to how I take those though ;)

^I agree, I too wished for twins. . . this is why the snarky comments don't bother me unless they're really just mean.

I've heard the "If I had twins I would kill myself" comment a bunch of times. I just don't get it. It just makes me feel that much tougher to be doing it.

But on the flip side, we get so many more questions from people that are just amazed by twins. I never talked to so many strangers in stores or public places since I had them. I am actually touched by how many people make positive comments about them.

The other day, my mom and I took the boys to the diner and this sweet older man came over after a few minutes told us how cute he thought the boys were. He handed each of them a dollar bill! It was really sweet. My mom and I were on the verge of tears!

I let the negative comments roll off my back and I really appreciate all the positive ones. But honestyl, I don't really get the fascination with twins. I never really noticed them before I had mine.
