There almost 3... and have no interest in the potty at all

    Hi, all,

I feel like I'm failing a big test in parenting... somehow, potty training seems unsurmoutable with twins who show absolutely no readiness, seem happy with their diapers, and think the potties are for decoration (or looking at books)... and if they sit on them, surely nothing happens!

What to do? How can I get myself ready for potty training them?!

    DeLana :(

    Breathe.

My girls weren't ready at that age either but trained easily at 3 years, 4 months.

You can just keep reminding them, and supporting them, and do whatever (bribery, subtle hints, peer pressure :) ) and they'll get there.

Relax and don't worry. Easy to say on my end of the game, I totally know where you are at, though.

Thanks, I just remember hearing (a long time ago, I'm out of sequence with parenting ;)) that all kids "should be potty trained by the time they're 3". And having no previous experience, I just don't know any better (and then I had a friend tell me how easily her son was trained - by the time he turned 2 :icon_eek: !

Well, I feel better now. Back to spending my retirement savings on diapers

My girls started to show interest after they were 3. They were 3 in the June and end of July/August they were over and done with in a week, and I woz sooooooooo stressed about it. Let them tell u when they're ready/interested.

    Good luck

Don't listen to anyone who says they have to be trained by 3. I felt pressure b'c my sister had her son trained by 27-28 months and DD by 24. It happens when it happens. I try not to stress but I still do at times. Hang in there.

Mine are 3.5 and we are still dealing with PTing here. Son is pretty much day-trained...almost night trained. DD is close to being day trained but not night. However, they won't poop on the potty.

Abigail was trained just before they turned three in October, but Audrey has just now started wearing panties during the day. They both still wear pull-ups at night though, so we're not completely there. You're not alone. Relax, it'll happen. Audrey would get too stressed out when I tried to have her wear panties before she was ready. Then, one day a couple of weeks ago, she asked to wear them and she pretty much has trained herself. It was her time!

Our preschool director told us that you would be surprised to learn how many kids potty train in August the year they turn 3. The idea of going to school seems to help push them over the hump. Talk up preschool--if you are sending them, bring them for a visit, and talk about how they have to use the potty to go to school--that may be all you need!

My guys had NO interest in it anytime before 3. When they turned 3 I slowly began trying with them and it just clicked a month later. THey are now both completely potty trained.

Joey will be 3 in about 2 weeks and she could care less. Occasionally she tells me she's poopy or wet. It just doesn't matter to her. But I learned wth my oldest not to push it. Whenever she's ready, she's ready. Despite the fact that WE want her to be PT, we're (trying hard) to wait patiently!!

Mine are 3 yrs 1 month, and Noah refuses to even try. Aiden will sit on the potty, but doesn't do anything. Its frustrating because it seems like all the other kids around them are potty trained. My neice is two months younger, and completely trained. It makes me feel like a bad mom sometimes, but at the same time, I know my boys aren't ready yet and pushing it is just going to stress us all out. However, come summer time they are going bottomless and hopefully will start using the potty.
