I don't think it is ever a bad thing to have them evaluated, worst case scenario they need some help and you set that up while best case scenario they say everything is fine and you have peace of mind. K started walking on her tip toes but she soon began walking correctly. I just made sure to have her in barefeet as much as possible.

I would set up the evaluation and go from there but 15 months is definitely not something to be alarmed about in my opinion.

I agree with Dianne, one of my girls did not walk until abotu 17 months- and then a lot on her toes. She got a PT eval and is OK. She is my more verbal of the two and more cautious so some of it is her personality. EI is 'watching' her , but really she is doing just great to me- just slower on the gross motor skills, but boy does she pick up words fast!

It does not hurt to get an eval...but 15 month is not 'late'- my pedi said he wouldn't worry until past 18 months- and even that is is the 'norm'!

Maybe she is just a little slower and will figure it out all on her own. But maybe there is a problem that a physical therapist can help her with, and if that's the case, the sooner it's caught, the easier it will be to deal with it. So, get the evaluation.

Honestly, we loved have PT and OT through early intervention. We started when they were much younger, and I always wondered how parents without EI knew what to do with their kids to help them roll over, and sit up, and crawl and all that good stuff (half joking here).

So, there's no harm in having her evaluated, and you'll go from there.

    Good luck.

cameron didn't walk until close to 15 months - he received PT from 7 months until around 17 months of age - it was a great service - really helped him and helped me know how to work with him. we didn't receive it through EI though. he does still walk on his toes a lot - but i decided we all needed a break from therapy a few months ago and the pedi is not concerned about him. anyway, i think if you can get PT and it is covered by insurance or you qualify for EI, it is never a bad thing. good luck!

Ny girls were preemies so we qualified for EI from the get go. We received PT, and OT for about 5 1/2 months around when they were about 12 months adjusted age. It helped immensely- I would suggest an eval at least. They are trained professionals- and within months- mine were walking (they had extremely low motivation because they butt scooted everywhere). Mine didn't walk until 17 months adjusted.

My twins are interesting. Michael walked early. He's completely normal. Matthew had a horribly rough start, and is just starting to think about crawling. Or so we thought. Mother's day I had him standing up (one of his exercises) and he started taking steps with assistance. The nicu said he'd never walk... so this is exciting. The therapist says he should be walking sooner than later.

I am all for therapy, but make sure they give you exercises to do with her every day... they make a difference

...Im not sure if your pedi is being too hastey...my one son didnt walk until 16 months...he was just lazy...lol. He did a lot on his tippies at first too....he does great, and actually more coordinated than the other!! There is nothing wrong with therapy, but..

Maybe a second opinion in this matter wont hurt.

It can't hurt to get an EI evaluation. We did EI for many reasons, one of which was Noah's weak trunk strength. He ended up being a very late walker-- 20 months-- but now he can run with the best of them. :)

Therapy is never a bad thing. If offered take it and go with it. My boys did not walk until 14-15 months. So no issues in that area. But they did not reallly say many words until 22 months! So they were evaluated for speech delays and have been in therapy since 18 months and its awesome! I think they will be discharged at next eval in Sept! They both do learn much differently too. Zach is very intellectual and Josh is very athletic. So very different so their developmental is diff too. But nothing to worry about at all.

My dd gets PT for her gross motor skills. She just started walking, about 17 months old. The PT has helped tremendously. She was n't even getting on all 4's at 10 months. within 6 weeks of PT she was crawling and pulling up. IT was just the extra support she needed to give her the confidence to take off! Plus the emotional support it lent me to have an "expert" tell me she will be fine was invaluable."

Just becaesu you are advised to get therapy for your child doesn't mean you should be alrarmed. A little extra help can never hurt. It's like giving a little tylenol for a fever. No biggie, just a little help. It's a positive thing!
