It's not fun! We have a diaper genie, which seems to work ok for the smells, but DH's nose is more sensitive than mine. He sprinkles baby powder in the bottom of each can, baking soda might work too. I've just been taking the trash out a little more frequently these days.

My babies are young but they have stinkier than average poos for their age. I think it's the soy formula. I put a stick-up air freshener inside the diaper champ so now when I turn the handle and get the 'whiff' from inside it's alot less stinky.
One thing I noticed with the diaper champ - when you put the bag in it has to be secured with the blue part inside so none of the bag sticks out of the diaper pail. I wasn't using it for a while and noticed a definite increase in the stink. I think if any of the bag is outside of the lid it doesn't seal properly.

I've had this same problem. I just started taking the stinky diapers to the garbage can outside. I only put the pee diapers in the diaper champ.

We don't use anything special for diapers. However, we do take the STINKERS out to the garage immediately. The others we just trash as usual and take out the trash pretty frequently.

Yep, the stinkers go outside or at the very least into a plastic grocery bag and set outside. P.U.!

We put stinky diapers in a ziploc bag before throwing them out. This helps a lot! Yes we go through a lot of ziplocs, but it's worth the extra expense to have a smell-free nursery!

I put my son's poopy diapers in plastic grocery bags, tie them shut, and put them directly in the trash can outside. I only use his Diaper Champ for wet diapers.

I buy those blue scented baggies at BRU (but I have seen them at the grocery store as well).

Speaking of the Diaper Champ. I bought mine last April. I was in BRU the other day and noticed the have a new and improved one! It has a WIDE opening AND a button to make it easier to open...of course it does because these are the two things I have complained about the most about it!! [IMG]

I never bothered with the diaper genie but if they go to the bathroom while they are sleeping their room stinks so bad. So sometime when they get up and come out to the living room to play I'll light a candle in their room.

We also have a diaper champ(older model) and it STINKS!!!! I change it daily, spray with Lysol each change, and put stinkies in those bags from BRU. I emailed the company and they said the seal might be the valve thingy and sent me replacements. It still stinks!

Trillian- you mentioned the trash bag has to be inside and not sticking out? How do you do that? The only way I find to get the bag to stay put is if it's hanging out and the lid catches it. Maybe I need to get my manual back out and see if I'm doing it wrong.

I think the stick up air freshner is a good idea. Think I will try that one. The other thought I had was to either get those scented diaper disosable bags from BRU or if you are like me and have tons of plastic bags from the supermarket, you could keep them by the changing table and tie the stinky diapers up in that and then put it in the diaper champ. My friend does that and her babies room doesn't smell at all.

I used to tie them in dog poo bags... they are small enough and contain the odor of the diaper. I would toss them into the outside garbage. This time, we didn't even bother with a diaper genie or champ and are going the dog poo bag route.

I had a Fisher Price diaper pail that had a special slot to slide in an air freshener stick up. I kept the pail in a closet which kept the stink down for some reason.

The blue plastic part that's inside the diaper pail is actually to secure the bag. You put the bag through the hole and tuck the edges under it. It's a pain to do and I was doing it your way for a while and noticed the smell got bad. When I started using the plastic thing inside again the smell went away.

The biggest thing that has helped us is taking poo right to the garage trash cans. Better to have the stink in the garage than in the house! By the time trash day rolls around, those cans smell nice and ripe. Those poor trash men!!!! [IMG]

I have the diaper champ as well and we haven't had too many problems with the stinkiness. I dumped a whole box of baking soda in the bottom if it, maybe that's helping.

Nothing more stinky than poopie diapers!!
