do/did your twins have their own language?
mine babble away to each other and laugh... you know, i carried them for 8 months, while they tore my belly apart... you'd think they would let me in on the secret alien language!

(they are a little behind on the talking and the pedi thinks this is the reason. i still say it's cuz they're bilingual)

Mine have certain words that they've made up and only use with one another, but I wouldn't say it's a whole language :) I haven't noticed any delays with language/talking, so I don't have a clue as to the "twin language" thing and how it relates to typical language development. Sorry!

I am not sure how it affect language development, but I know that my girls have their own language. They mumble back and forth all the time and laugh. :rotflmbo: But I notice it more when they are ill with each other.

Yes, mine babble back and forth all the time. They seem to know what each other is saying and it seems like a true conversation. I had heard about twins having their own language and thought it was strange. Now, I know it is true.

When mine just turned 2, it seemed like they had their own language because they would babble back and forth. But it was just a phase with them. As soon as they learned the appropriate words, and learned how to put a sentence together, their "language" stopped and know can understand most things.

I know a set of twins whose parents raised them to be bilingual and when they were 2-3, they used to go back and forth between spanish and english within the same sentence. They also were very difficult to understand and talked late. We attributed it to the fact that they were bilingual. Now they are 7 and perfectly normal (concerning language development).

Ours stopped the twin talk as their vocab got bigger. Probably around 2.5

My boys are behind in the language department as well. And-they aren't bilingual(well-they maybe have a few words...lol)!

I know my dh went to Italy the summer he was 4. He was supposed to go into Kindergarten that fall(turn 5 in December). When he and his mom went to the K eval, or whatever BEFORE the trip, they told her to come back and they'd re-evaluate after he came back from Italy.

Well-when he came back from Italy, he didn't speak ANY English! LOL! So-they advised he go to Pre-K and then start Kindergarten the following year.

    OK. That was a tangent....

As for the twin language, I don't think my boys have that. I really wish they would! Every now and then they may babble back and forth, but overall, all I hear coming out of their mouth towards each other is, "NO NiNi(Nicholas)!" "NO ToTo(Anthony!" :pardon:

As soon as Royce started with words, the cute babble stopped. Now they actually talk to each other with English words.

Mine do as your's do. They have some "twin talk". It is getting a little less, since they are developing more words. They are also behind where my other children were talking. The ped warned us that twin talk can interfere with the timing of language development. I'm not concerned, and they are within the normal range as it is. They just aren't ahead. LOL The twin talk is so cute!

Twin talk still happens a bit but is fading fast around here - I think its height was between 18-24 months. It was sooo sweet!

Mine have their own language as well. They are talking, but they are quite a bit behind some of their friends that are the same age. I'm not that worried though, they let me know what they want, and our pedi isn't worried either.
