We go to a local farm about twice a month. It's a learning farm where children can take animal care classes, horsemanship classes, they have a preschool, and other nature-oriented classes. While we have yet to partake in any of their formal offerings, it has been an incredible resource for us.

Today, the farm's resident pig gave birth to fourteen piglets right in front of our eyes. It was such an amazing experience. All day my boys have been telling Daddy (not with us this morning) about the "eewie, gooey piggies came out.....farmer cleaned them off.....they drinking the mommy's milk". What perfect timing it was, I hope we'll be as lucky next month with the breeding goat!

There was a bit of a crowd watching as the farmer helped birth the piglets and one of the adults asked the farmer (as the poor, mama pig convulsed with contractions), "How many more does she have in there, do you think?" The farmer replied, while cleaning off piglet #13, "I hope it's not more than one, the poor girl only has 14 teats." (Can't we all appreciate that comment!)

  I love it! My kids love to watch animals being born. Fortunately we get to watch kitten birthing at least annually, sometimes more!

I grew up on a hog farm where we bred/birthed piglets...ahh, the good old days...lol. But it really does "teach" a lot to watch something like that! It's pretty amazing! I remember getting SO excited when they would have their babies. We had about 14 at a time that would give birth all within days of each other!

y boys were watching Discovery Health Channel one day and one of those birthing shows was on. Well- there was a twin mom who had planned on having a home birth but the midwife was not there and the babies were coming fast and furious. The husband was videotaping it and she was squatting on the bathroom floor. When I came downstairs and saw their faces I asked what was wrong. Griffin looked scared and Alex piped up and said- that lady on TV just pooped a baby out of her dupa (that is what they call their bottom), mommy. Griffin asked me if I pooped them out. It was all I could do not to burst into laughter right then and there. Then Griffin says, " Well I'm glad that I'll be the husband and that the wife has to do that- it looked like it hurt." But he did add that he'll hold her knees back for her and hold her hand-lol!!!! and that he'll be a good daddy someday!! He was very sincere ad I just love that he appreciated that women go through alot to have babies. My silly boys!!!

This just killed me. Maybe you should bring that video clip back out again when they are fifteen and hormonal; sounds like effective birth control!
