    They decided to come early!!!!!

My water broke at 2:55 AM Saturday September 29th. Alex was already at work and I called him to come home immediately!

We got to the hospital at 4 am. They had to do some bloodwork and verify my water being broke. Sure enough today was the day. The dr. came in and we discussed the delivery and the c-section was arranged.

Well everytime I went to go back to get it there was an emergency before me and since our babies were monitoring so well, we had to wait. I was having some painful contractions but nothing too crazy.

Then it was finally our turn at around 2:30 pm. I went in the operating room and was prepped for a spinal block. That was pretty scary and I started to shake as it took 3 attempts. Then I lied down on the table and everything was set up to have the babies.

I didn't feel anything and there was so much commotion with each person's role in there. I started to shake and cry as all 5 yrs of waiting to have children finally came to this moment. It was very emotional, in a good way.

Alex came in moments later and

at 2:54 PM Indira Ameet Handa was born, she weighed 5lbs 4oz and was 17 inches long. She came out screaming!

at 2:55 PM Arjun Ameet Handa was born, he weighed 5lbs 8oz and was also 17 inches long. He came out screaming louder.

They tested them and Arjun got a 10 on his Apgar Test and Indira got a 9.9 on hers. The dr's and nurses were very impressed as very few babies get these scores!

I saw them for a brief moment and then they were wisked away to the nursery to get checked out.

I was wheeled into recovery at 3:30 and was monitored very closely as I began to hemmorharge. I was so thirsty but couldn't have anything in case I needed to go back to surgery. I was shaking a lot and had to get meds to calm me down. My BP went through the roof! All my other vitals were normal so they just had to keep pushing on my stomach to make my uterus contract so the bleeding would stop. That was so scary and more painful than anything I have ever been through. Good thing the spinal block was still somewhat effective as the dr. had to reach her hand way up 'there' and get the clots out while she pushed on my uterus. It was too high because of the twins and the nurse's reassured me that it could have happened to me with the vaginal birth so I shouldn't feel bad about the c/s.

Alex's parents and mine both came to visit for a quick moment and it was nice to see some familiar faces but I was on morphine so I don't remember too much. They did bring the babies in but I didnt' get to spend much time with them since I was being checked over from head to toe every 15 minutes. My parents got a picture of me and the babies but I don't remember it. LOL

The nurses in the recovery room were so awesome. As I started to get scared they would talk to me and calm me down and I felt so weird without the babies but Alex and everyone kept telling me how wonderful they were doing.

Finally around midnight I was released to my private room and was still hooked up to monitors and IV's and pain medicine. Indira got to spend the night in the regular nursery and Arjun had to stay in the transition nursery since his breathing was rapid.

The next morning we all improved. I was removed from the morphine drip and was starting to feel better. I even got out of bed at 4:30 AM to go the bathroom. I did start shaking again and felt weird but was assured it was all normal.

The babies were brought in the room around 8am and Alex came back to the hospital. He went home to get some real sleep and feed the cats (it was 24 hours since they had last eaten because we were at the hospital for so long).

I spent the day out of it because of the pain meds and the pure exhausation of it all. When they say childbirth takes everything out of you, they mean it. Not only physically but mentally because you are checked every 2 hours and you feel all these things you never have before and suddenly you see your babies and think, wow, you were inside of me? All the pain goes away at that moment when you hold them but inbetween it catches up to you. The love that you feel for them the moment you hold them is so unbelievably wonderful and pure and just takes your breath away.

So each day, I have felt a little bit more and more better and gotten out of bed without assistance and I had to get my blood drawn to make sure my hemoglobin was going up. It was very low and kept getting lower but the more I moved around it slowly came back up. My BP leveled out.

On Sunday, the grandparents on both sides and the uncles came out to see the babies. It was nice to have everyone's love and support but it did take alot of the babies. Alex and I spent the next couple of hours calming them down. Alex could see I was just exhausted and we discussed with the nurse the babies going to the nursery so I could rest and feel better the next day and he was going home so I couldn't do it by myself just yet. They were still afraid I was going to pass out and need a blood transfusion. So off to the nursery they went and I got some sleep. I was in alot of pain but managed to rest for an hour or two.

Monday was better, I was able to get up by myself and eat and nurse the babies. Arjun is a pro at it and Indira needs some coaching but once she gets it, I will be able to do both at once.

Alex has done so remarkable because he jumped right in and changed poopy diapers and fed the babies and changed them and swaddled them. I was just amazed at how much he did. He was exhausted at the end of each day but the smile on his face made me realize he was so happy and he didn't care. Indira is already a daddy's girl, she looks like him and Arjun is a momma's boy already as he wants to breastfeed all the time. He looks like me.
Alex's support and love through all of this has been one of the most precious gifts he could ever give me. I couldn't have done any of this without him. He has just been my rock and while he was learning how to change the diapers and hold them and feed them he never took his eye off me and was the first one to help me with anything I needed, even with one baby in his hand and me in the other! He just continues to amaze me and make me fall in love with him more and more and more each and every day. He tells family and friends how strong I am am and how he is just so proud of me. He looked at my incision today and said he will never forget what I went through to have his children. It was the sweetest thing he could have said to me! I am sure the journey of parenthood will be stressful at times and we still have a long road ahead but we depend on each other so much, I know we can make it through anything as long as we have each other.

We took their pictures today and will order some. We also, have tons of pics from all different cameras. I am attaching the one with the both of them but we will have more in the next week or so.

Today will be another big day as we make our journey home. We have lots of dr's and nurses to go over things with us and should be home in the afternoon. It will be nice to finally be home and get situated.

Alex has the rest of this week off to help me out as I continue to heal from my surgery and my mom will come for a couple of hours a day next week to help me out as well.

Okay I think I rambled enough thanks for listening.

Oh wait....I don't know how to attach a picture.......

Congrats!!! My little boy was a nursing champ too!!! My little girl started out strong but just wouldn't do it anymore after 7 weeks...little stinker... just remember how different they are....frat twins (and some would say id. twins too) have their own little personalities...so it's okay to do things differently for them if you have to. Hope you get some good sleep soon... I felt tired just reading your story...remembering how exhausting it all was!
