I thought this was interesting because in the magazine it also broke down about feeding yellow food first and actually starting with meats instead. And how we were all taught no eggs or nuts till after age 1 and now they are staying the AMA is saying starting at age 6 months feeding eggs and nuts are ok....

    What do you guys think?

I had heard about meat being a good first food and that it's recommended in Europe. I did start with cereal but I thought it tasted pretty bad so we moved on quickly to veggies. I offered meat pretty early on -- mixed in with veggies or rice (real rice not rice cereal) and they loved it.

I didn't know about egg whites being allergenic so I did feed it to them earlier than the one year mark (I think around 9 months). My horrible mother who never listens to me about anything fed them peanut butter cookies when I wasn't looking. Lucky for me they weren't allergic to either food but it could have gone the other way. I guess if there are no allergies in the family history and the babies seem fairly robust and you really don't feel like they should have a reaction, I would personally be OK with starting eggs or nuts earlier than 1 year. But if there is even a whiff of doubt I would just wait.

This stuff seems to change so often. It is all very vague and does not apply to each child. You have to see what allergies are in your family and I would follow my pedi's advice over anyones! JMHO

My pedi said that unless there are allergies in the family it doesn;t matter. I started rice then day two added pears then every combo after that. I give them three different tastes and textures at each meal. Eg. cereal, gel fruits, custard.... or warm veggies, smooth fruit, cereal. I didn;t want them to get stuck on the same thing for a week. Pears to prevent constipation. Next they are getting chocolate custard !!!
