The smell of milk

I never had this problem with my twins but now I do: Everything smells of milk (I don't like the smell so I am sensitive to it) and spit up milk and I can't seem to get rid of the smell completely by washing. Washing in a long hot cycle works better but not all of the baby's clothes and my nursing wardrobe can be washed that way. In particular, my nursing pads and nursing bras are turning hard so I suspect that washing them according to instructions as delicates is not enough to strip the milk out of them. Any tried and tested tips?

Does your machine have a "pre soak" setting? That might help.

Hmm, I never really did mine in the delicate cycle. I did wash it all in Dreft for the boys & my own homemade soap for A.

I would think it could handle Permanent Press or Normal which on my washer aren't hot, merely warm/cool.
