If you read my other post you'd probably know now that I have been to the L&D again for the 3rd time. I'm not suggesting anything here so just take this with a grain of salt and maybe you can identify and have a bit of fun with it. I call it the pull of the moon and uterine activity theory. [IMG]

I asked to the doc on call as to why my contractions (the more intense and stubborn ones) happen late at night and really early in the morning. Well, her answer as well as by OB was that they don't know. [IMG] She said it could be because of so many things like the pull of the moon ?!?

Hmmm...I have been to the L&D the first weekend of each month for the past 3 months. I checked out the lunar calendar and guess what!!! It was a full moon every single time! Maybe the effect is like that of the moon's effect on the tides causing my uterus to be more active? Coincidence? Maybe but freaky and funny as well.

    Anyway, just wanted to share!

The nurses at L/D always dreaded a full moon...always much busier. I believe it, and I was nervous during those last few full moons!

So far it's true for me, but just THIS month. I'm into my second day of contractions that just seem to be increasing slowly. We're hoping to deliver sometime this weekend! I like your theory, stick with it!

My mom is a nurse (not L&D) but I know she comments all the time that she hates working when there is a full moon.

I heard somewhere that of all women that have a regular menstrual cycle, about HALF of them will get their period around the full moon! It would be interesting to do a poll and find out how true this is. [IMG]

Supposidly back before the days of regular indoor light almost all women would get their period according to the full moon.
I had my DD on a full moon and lots of the nurses told me "full moon, baby boom" so I believe it.

I suppose there really COULD be something to this theory. I was thinking my DD was born around a full moon. I looked it up and, sure enough, she was born the exact date of a full moon...May 4, 2004. I was 40 wks. 2 days, so it could be that it was just time for her to come but I wonder if she would have come a little earlier or later had the full moon been at a different time. Hmmmmm....

[IMG]I believe in the moon thing...my grandmother told me that babies are usually born on a new moon or when the moon changes. So you can gaurentee that im going to be watching the moon when it gets closer to my due date!!

I have heard of the moon thing too. I have also heard about high pressure systems bringing on labor - like hurricanes, etc. When I was 36 or 37 weeks pregnant with my son, a hurricane was expected to come through - my doctor made a comment that she wouldn't be surprised to see me deliver that weekend. Thankfully that did not happen and my son held off until he was 40 weeks.

Ditto.. when I delivered my first the rooms were all full and it was a full moon. The nurse on duty told me they always dreaded a full moon because it got crazy. I believe it!

I have always heard this about babies and menstrual cycles. But I had my last baby on the New Moon and it was a crazy night in L&D, and one of the nurses commented that it was a New Moon. So, maybe it's both. Just checked the calendar for this year and I will be 36 weeks on June 30 and that is a full moon, so maybe.....I'm sure I'll be ready by then!

    Keep us posted!

I believe it. My contractions started Saturday morning around 2am...consistently every 10 minutes. Went to the hospital around 4am and was sent home by 8am as they became irregular. The docs said they would rather have the babies stay in at least another week eventhough I will be delivering by c-section since Baby A is breech. I knew a maternity nurse as well that hated the full moon, and my friends and I blame alot of stuff around the full moon....kids crazy, not sleeping very well...etc.

I'm hoping that this baby wait until his due date so that I can get a few more things done before then so I was happy to see that the full moon in March is only 2 days before that date. [IMG] Maybe that gives me a little better chance of making it until then. [IMG]

This is fascinating! I had never given this a second thought before. It sounds like you're definitely on to something....

I def believe the full moon puts women into labor by creating a pull on water. I went into labor during a full moon with my daughter an dmy frist sign was my water breaking. The maternity ward was packed too. That's also the same night the tsunami happened...
