The Power of Suggestion and labor

So after reading so many posts on here lately I am wondering if the power of suggestion has anything to do with when we go into labor. For example, I have read on here many times that there is a 50/50 chance that someone pregnant with twins will go into labor at 34 weeks. However, at my last doctor's appointment when I asked my doctor about it she said that is not true, and that most women pregnant with twins go full term which is 38 weeks. I have a hard time believing that after being on this forum and can't help but think she is saying that to encourage me that I can make it to 38 weeks. In fact every time I bring it up the doctor says "You will make it to 38 weeks". So what do you think, do you think that if you keep it in your mind that you will make it full term that it has anything to do with how far you actually go?

DDancer's doctor told her she could have the babies at 34 weeks, and then there was that post last week about the full moon and a lot of people thought they'd go into labor yesterday, and then also she posted that her DH was telling everyone she would have the babies in the next few days.....do you think that had anything to do with her going into labor on the very day she predicted she would go into labor?

    It just got me thinking....

I do believe in the power of suggestion. Thats why I always think positive thoughts. I really think I will carry these 2 to 38 weeks, another full moon! Although you can't help but have a worry here and there. Whether or not the power of suggestion works, it can't hurt to think positive thoughts.
    How did the nst go?

Thats so funny! I was thinking the same thing!
As soon as I saw her post about being crampy I remembered that she had just posted about the full moon.

Well if it has anything to do with power of suggestion, then please 'suggest' I go on Saturday. My doctor also had told me she just wanted me to keep them in till 34 weeks, and she had also mentioned that she was the on-call doctor on Saturday and I would love to deliver with her.

I believe in the power of suggestion but I also believe that the poser of the babies will to come out even more.

My ds was 2 weeks late and I would have done ANYTHING to get him out. I was 2 cm 90% effaced and having contractions 6 minutes apart for 2 weeks. I walked, ate spicy food, was doing acupuncture, getting massages with achilles stimulation, having sex, nipple stimulation, everything!!!! HE just didn't want to come out. I wish the power of suggestion worked there but no luck, he just didn't want to come out.

Good question!! DH and I have been talking about full-term the whole time - we refuse to say the babies will not go full-term. We know that we cannot control it, but we always talk positively. My doctor has said from the beginning that many women attending their practice and carrying twins have gone 37-38 weeks. She says this a lot. Today she checked my cervix and said 36-38 weeks for me is what she would guess as of right now. She also said, you never know, some women go longer...
