the party of the century

So the girls' first birthday party is this Saturday, and for the last 6 weeks my mantra has been "Keep it simple." OMGosh... how naive!

First of all, DH and I have big families. Mine is local and just inviting them is like 25+ people. His is 2000 miles away, but I sent invites to be nice. I never expected them to take me up on it. But this weekend a bunch of his sibs (he's one of 8 ) decided they are coming... and staying at my house! My best friend and her *new* boyfriend were already slated to stay here so I will have 5-7 (depending on how many sibs are coming) people staying with us... and we are in the middle of a remodel. HOPEFULLY the new carpet in the den will be installed on Thursday (have to call Lowes and BEG) so we can put air mattresses in there. Or else we'll have to rearrange the living room to make room for people since I only have a one full size bed in our guest bedroom. I told them they can all fight it out for the bedroom! I think this will be a good situation to size of best friend's new boy... if he can handle the craziness of all of us then he's a keeper!

In addition to have a house full of guests (which isn't such a bad thing because I now have SO much help with party prep), the final guest list for the actual party is well over 70 people. Almost everyone rsvp'ed yes! I'm so excited that everyone is sharing our girls' day with us, but 70 people is a lot so we've thrown the budget out the window and are having the thing catered. I was going to make all the food, but instead I'm making the cakes (2 for the girls) and cupcakes (for the guests).... and leaving it at that. My simple party with a small budget is now the party of the century around these parts! I'm very excited and happy that the girls' big day is going to be shared by our families and friends who care about us and them, but if I'm not on here as much as usual this week you all will know why. I promise to post some pictures next Monday (their actual birthday).

Oh and in addition to all of this, work is CRAZY busy this week with tons of deadlines so I should probably get back to that. Happy week everyone, Leighann

The more the merrier at this point! You'd need to leave now though if you were driving (we're in NY)!!! We are having the party at our local yacht club since our house is not big enough or finished enough to accommodate this many people (especially when one room will be completely filled with air mattresses!).

 

So cool that everyone wants to share in the momentous occasion!! You only turn 1 once...do it up!!
