This pacifier thing is going to be the end of me. Both girls started out with pacifiers, but one discovered her fingers and doesn't really want the paci anymore. The other used it some. Basically, she took it at bedtime or naptime. It would fall out once and I'd replace it. Then she'd STTN and everything was fine. In the past couple of days she has been waking up and screaming every time the paci falls out. I was up no less than 10 times last night. I don't know what to do. What can I do to help her learn to self-soothe? This is way worse than getting up every two hours to feed. At least that was at most three times a night. This goes on and on.

Is this part of that 4 month sleep regression LadyBenz was talking about? It may kill me.

Emma was my paci girl. Until she was old enough to put it back in herself, I made a rule that I didn't go in after 9 p.m. if she cried for less than 5 minutes. Most nights, if I honestly watched the clock, it was always less than that. I just let her CIO during these episodes and put herself back to sleep. If not, I would have been in there alllll the time.

Once she learned to find it and put it back in herself, I tossed in a handful of them for her.

I'm having the same issue with Olivia! She loves that damn thing and im constantly putting it in her mouth, too bad there wasnt something invented where it just stayed there all night! lol wishful thinking!! ;) I usually get up and put it in her mouth and rig it with the blanket honestly,it works! And if it happens to come out I try and let her cry for a few mins and see if she calms down(notice how i said a FEW mintues lol)
Sophia on the other hand is my self soothier and doesnt take the paci very well, its almost like a forigen object to her. Anyways I hope she learns to self soothe,GL!

My girls have been up to the same tricks. Victoria won't take one anymore at all. Emily was my paci girl. For last two weeks every time it fell out when she was in that semi sleep stage she would scream. I went and gave it back to her a few times, but just didn't have time or the patients to go give it back to her all the time. She would mostly settle back to sleep within 10 minutes. Now this week she has hardly taken it.

    Good luck

Jake did that exact thing between 4 and 6 months. At 6 months, I finally did CIO with him, I was so exhausted! :hug99:

I was thinking about posting this last night after reinserting at least 10 times in an hour. My DD sucks her fingers and we are having a hard time breaking her of it and she's going in to second grade!! I was hoping these babies would not have to go through that. But now I'm starting to wonder which is worse. I need sleep!!!! <_<

I think between the paci's and them learning how to roll over and sit up at 7 months they went from being the best little sleepers to the worst and now they sleep with us. I was such a sucker when they would look at me and point and say Mumma. I just couldn't resist. No advice just wanted to let you know we went through the same thing.

You people are supposed to have all the answers. How come no one has posted the cure for the pacifier problem?

Anyway, I thought we were in for it last night when she screamed for the paci every 5-10 minutes from 8-10 p.m., but then she went to sleep and only woke up once for the paci at 4:45. We have to go to the Twin Cities tonight for the girls' follow up appointment at the NICU. We'll be spending two nights at a relatives house and I'm expecting two sleepless nights because of it. I sure hope we can get things back on track when we come home on Sat.

I wouldn't have been able to do it, but while I was at work one day, my husband let the babies CIO until they eventually found their fingers. It took about 2 days for them to forget about their pacis. Now they're thumb-suckers (which my pedi's not too thrilled about), but we needed our sanity!!! :icon_eek:

We had the same problem and our ped. said that you either go in and replace it or take it away. We took them away we were succesfull with ds and I wasn't as strong with dd. It is better that she is older now at 4-5 months I was doing the same thing replacing the stupid thing all night long now I put 3-4 paci's in her crib and vary rarely can she not find one and replace it. Good luck I feel your pain but the only advice I have is go cold turkey on the soother or tough it out until she can replace it herself.

We got Wubb-A-Nubbs. Totally worth it. much less trips to the room to replace. http://www.wubbanub.com/

only our DD uses it, our DS has his fingers. DD loves it, and it is much easier to find, hold on to, etc....
