I really need advice on this one. The boys have figured out how to climb under one of my gates. This gate is a mesh flexible gate and it is the only one that will fit in that spot as it is on an angle. I'm not that worried about them on the stairs - they are pretty good with them. But my upstairs is completely not babyproofed and I think fairly unbabyproofable without 2-3 solid weeks of working on it. So between working full time and being single, it isn't going to happen. Then there is always the factor of one boy being upstairs and one boy being downstairs and how that would work. Any of you have experience with that? When have you let your kids in rooms in the house without you or taken down the baby gates?

I'm really royally screwed and could use some advice.
    Thanks

I had a friend who put a dutch door on her son's room so he could be locked in there playing and the upper half of the door was open and she could see/hear him. Then she shut all the other doors. I think she locked them and put the "key" on top of the door frame. The locks were the push in kind, and to unlock with the "key" you just push the key straight into the little hole and it pops open. This will only work until you start potty training. So my suggestion would be to commit to baby proof the bathrooms first. Work on it for 30 minutes a night.

I hardly ever used a gate. I began using blanket time to teach "no touch" as soon as mine were crawling. You can do the same. If you want more info, email me (PM). I'll explain it. It's too lengthy to include here.

Maybe I'm not understanding your set up but can you put a gate on the bottom step? Or at least at the top step?

After mine figured out the gate it was a ruff road. I did put locks on all the doors so they couldn't get in the rooms. But I don't know what I would do about them going upstairs.

we started with a gate at the bottom of the steps and then once they were walking we graduated to top and bottom - so if I was upstairs and they were the top gate was shut and if they were downstairs the bottom gate was shut...
