So both twins started running a fever on Christmas Day (Saturday). But Sunday Ben's was hitting 102 even with tylenol and motrin. Ella was hanging around 99.5, nothing to worry about. But I took them both in to the doc yesterday morning just to check on Ben. Ella had an ear infection in both ears, thus her lowgrade fever. They tested Ben for the flu and it came back positive. They didn't test Ella because her fever was so low and she didn't have any other symptoms and did have ear infections. They put her on an antibiotic and told us just to give Ben lots of fluids and pedialyte if he wouldn't take formula.

He also gave us weight specific doses of tylenol and motrin so he could be getting as much as he needed to keep his temp down below 101. However, the doc also gave us a weight specific dose of Benadryl. I don't remember when I started giving older DS benadryl based on weight but I don't think he was this young (8 months). I'm super nervous about giving it to him. Have any of you had your doc give you a dose of anything like that based on the baby's weight? I just don't want to OD him.

Also - how should I keep Ella from getting the flu since she obviously doesn't have it yet? They sleep in separate cribs but play with all the same toys.

I wouldn't bother with the benadryl if you're nervous about it. The motrin and tylenol will keep him pretty comfortable.

As for Ella, it's impossible to avoid exposure, and she for sure has been exposed already. Just keep an eye on her for worse symptoms and treat her the same way.

 hope everyone is feeling better at your house soon! The flu is awful.

I had to give Benadryl to my boys when they were 10 months old. The doctor told me how much and I just followed the instruction. Your doctor gave Benadryl because it would help with the stuffy nose.
I remember the first time my daughter had the flu she had an unbeliavable amount of mucus come out of her nose! (Sorry, I know TMI).
I hope he gets over it soon!

No flu for us yet, but we are dealing with the babies' first colds. I had it first, then Leo got it, then the nanny got it, then DH, and today Jude woke up with it. We are passing it around.
I hope your babies get better soon and your daughter avoids the flu altogether!

Went through our house a couple weeks ago...only good thing was that it only lasted about 24 hours for everyone. With twins its impossible for 1 to get something and have the other avoid getting it. JT had croup a few weeks ago and the Dr asked how Jack was feeling and when we said fine he replied with "well, he probably won't be in the next couple days" and just prescribed a little extra steroid for when Jack started hacking!!!!!

((HUGS)) hope everyone feels better soon!

Dealing with the flu in young twins sounds really challenging. It’s great that you took them to the doctor and have specific dosages for their medication. To keep Ella from getting the flu, try to sanitize their toys frequently and keep their sleeping areas as separate as possible. Consult Home Advisor for tips on cleaning and disinfecting your home to minimize the spread of germs. It's understandable to be nervous about giving Benadryl; double-check with your doctor if you have any concerns. Hopefully, both twins recover quickly and feel better soon.
