The First First Birthday Party

We had the twins' first first birthday party a few days ago. I hope this isn't a trend, but we decided since the family was all together for Thanksgiving and my sister is pregnant (and therefore traveling is hard on her) we'd go ahead and celebrate the babies' birthday. We are having another party this weekend at our house for friends.

I really can't believe they are almost a year old. It just seems like yesterday that I was logging in to First Year and searching for advice on how to get babies to sleep. I remember seeing tickers for people who had babies that were 7 or 8 months old and that seemed like a lifetime away. I didn't think I would but every now and then I do miss my tiny little babies. I miss the smell of them when they were so tiny. I miss holding them in the living room, by the light of the Christmas tree, marveling that they were finally here. (And healthy.)
One year ago yesterday I was released from the hospital after a 13 week stay on bedrest. I still can't believe we managed to keep those babies in for as long as we did.

My little man, Bug as we call him, is walking. He says the word duck, Mama (still not to me really), and Dada (not to John really). He claps, and thinks he deserves applause at everything. He's favorite pass time is jumping in his crib and stealing his sister's toys, or paci, or shoes. He loves for me to count his ribs and to climb in my lap for a quick hug. He also really loves flirting with all the ladies. He has even perfected the head tilt and grin. He is shameless!

Then there is my lady- our Sassy. Mostly I love that she's as independent as she is, but sometimes I hate that she doesn't need as many cuddles or hugs as her brother. She is a chatterbox eventhough I haven't caught on to any words yet. She loves to dance. And she loves to climb in the recliner and make herself rock. She has a patience that the rest of us don't have. She will play with one toy and study it before moving on. One of her favorite things is when her daddy steals her kisses around her neck, tickling her with his goatee. She can clap and she cruises, but is not so sure about letting go yet. She has figured out how to get just about anywhere she wants without letting go though.

I've rambled enough! Here are some pictures from their first first birthday party! I was taking video for the the first part of the cake action, so this is at the end when they were almost done. And Rea is the one with blue eyes, Jay is the one with dark eyes.

    Happy Birthday Rea and Jay!
    Where did it all go?
    Cake is good!
    I need more!
    Oh, look! Here's some!
Can I fit all this in my mouth?
I'm going to be on a sugar high for the rest of the day!

Thanks for letting me ramble and share pictures!

Ah, I just love the pics and quotes with them - very cute!

Mine turned 6 months on Friday and I just know that in 6 months´ time, I´ll be writing a post just like yours! I remember when mine were tiny and I was desperately trying to find info as they were colicky and life was tough. I, too, looked at people´s tickers and wished the time away!

Anyway, sorry to ramble! Happy 1st birthday to your little cuties! :D :birthday:

They are so sweet, and you've done a good job as they look so healthy!

(I had 13 weeks of bedrest too. The time is flying, and sometimes I'm so tired. But your post reminds me to be conscious of even the smallest of treasures in each moment.)
