Identical! We knew it! :a_smil09:

It was a long decision for us to spend the $160 on the test because we did IVF using two eggs, so we naturally assumed that the girls were a result of both eggs. They have always looked so much alike, and at times we have had problems telling them apart so we have suspected all along that they were identical. One the one had it is sad that one of the eggs didn't make it, but wow, triplets? I can't imagine!

Very exciting. Now you have $160 worth of proof that you can trust your instincts!

Wow! I wonder how often that happens with IVF?

My Dr. said if they are in two different sacs they are fraternal and if they share the same sac they are identical, so I am confused as to why you would not know which they were. Sorry to sound dumb, I just don't know.

    Awesome!! :)

We don't know about Casey & Reid's status either. We can't tell them apart most days! Thankfully Reid has a birthmark!

Two different sacs does not necessarily mean fraternal (but one sac does mean identical.) So if there are two sacs they could be either. Odds are they're fraternal, but there is a (30%?) chance they are identical.

We haven't gotten ours tested but everyone but me can't tell them apart... (Two girls, two sacs, two placentas, look very very much alike and same length, weight, head measurement.)

Awesome!!!!! I bet it's nice to finally know. People ask us all the time if our boys are identical or not and they look pretty different, so I can imagine since yours look the same, even more people would ask you. Now you can say for sure ;)

Isn't it great to have the answer to that question?! And really, $160 is pretty cheap compared to the cost of most medical tests.

My ID boys were clearly di/di and we had them tested to know for certain when I finally convinced DH they looked enough alike to warrant a test (he was so sure they were fraternal...) Anyway, it frustrates me to no end that there are doctors still dishing out this misinformation. The odds favor fraternal but roughly 30% of identical twins have their own "gear".

Congrats on finding out. Everywhere we go everyone thinks mine are identical. We have thought about doing the test but with 5 kids I can't see spending the money right now. I just keep thinking that the older they get they more they should start looking differnt. So we will hold out for now.

    Congrats on the news!!!
I was told by my OB that if the egg splits very soon after conception, that identical twins can have their own sacs/placentas. If the egg splits later, then it is more likely that identical twins will share 1 sac/placenta. Has anyone else heard this? Mine are definitely fraternal, no need to spend 160$, especially when I am going through formula/diapers like water!!!
