Does anyone know how much your chances increase of having twins again? Do the chances change depending of whether you had ID or FR?

I have read different things on the Internet, but haven't found a trusted source to get information from.

I keep playing around with the idea of whether or not we are done, but DH is afraid of getting twins again. (You would think he was the one who had to carry and give birth to them!! :D )

    Thanks!

Well I thought my odds were slim, but I have just found out i am having ID twins again after frats two years ago, all conceived without any aid. My Dr said that if you use fertility drugs the changes are 25% higher for frats again, but for ID about 1 in 8 mil. (guess there were 7999 999 other people dtd that day too!!)
What I can say is that I have learned
    1. You will get what you ask for ..... my twin girls
    2. Your biggest fears will manifest itself ..... scared of second twin pg.

The odds are not great, but it does happen.

if you have FR twins your chances of conceiving FR twins again are higher, although you're still more likely to conceive a singleton than twins.

if you have ID twins your chances of conceiving twins again are the same as they were before.

but as PP said, it's not impossible! my DH has convinced himself that we're going to end up with triplets next time just because that's how things tend to go for us. at least he's still willing to try. ;)

I have a good friend who has twin boys who are about 3 months older than my boys. They wanted to try for a girl. She just had twin girls about 2 months ago. Both sets are fraternal.

I read somewhere that if you had fraternal twins, your chances of frats again are 40%...basically, you don't know if you drop two eggs every month, every three months, once a year...so, if you have the tendency to drop multiple eggs (frats), your body can/will do it again...you just don't know when or how often. :)

The odds are definitely higher, but there are tons of people here who have gotten pregnant with singleton pregnancies after their twins.

My DH feels the same way! It was actually one reason he finally agreed to do the DNA testing on our boys. They turned out to be ID so I think he is leaning more towards trying for "one" more. If they were frat I think he would have put his foot down!

The Internet is so not useful to find information! I had read that regardless of the type of twins you have, the chances of getting them again raise by like 70+%! That's crazy!

The odds do vary on ID or frat... but i looked up ID stats before just because that is what i have..

The odds of having one set of identicals and one set of fraternals is 1 in 10,000.

If a woman has one set of identicals, her chance of having another is 1 in 70,000 or less.

The odds of having 3 sets of twins, of any kind, is 1 in 500,000.

I have been wondering this too...

My maternal grandmother's cousin had one set of twins, then exactly one year later (to the day!!) she had another set of twins...then later a SET OF TRIPLETS!!! Good heavens!! And this was in the 1940's and 50's!!! I think altogether, she had maybe 17 children....Now she is 100 or close to it and has over 700 descendants....WOW

Ummmmm....I wonder what will happen to me? (okay - so far off relative...I guess I should be okay! hee hee)
