Silas Jasper and Ezra Oliver were born 12/14/11 at 37w4d
    12:21pm and 1:10pm
    6lb 15oz and 6lb 12 oz

We were in the hospital for a week--Silas had to have a blood transfusion and the hospital let us stay in a family room so we could be together. They are both doing very well.
They are 3wks old and going through a crazy growth spurt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thank you, everyone!
Actually I did write out the story while we were staying in the hospital that first week. It's pretty detailed, so just to warn you!!!

So Tues night around midnight I was having contractions, not painful, but then around 1am or so I heard/felt my water break and the contractions got painful right after. So when they were 5 mins apart I tried calling my OB but she was unavailable (her dad died in hospice over the wknd so my appt was moved to Wed at 1pm) and I talked to a midwife from her backup practice who said to head in. When I got here I was 3cm. Finally!!! So the pain was getting really bad and I had already decided to get the epidural but I really wanted to wait till I was definitely active and progressing steadily. The nurse assured me that I was on my way and that even if I didn't get the epidural, that wouldn't guarantee that I would not have to end up using Pitocin. She thought I would do fine and I trusted her because she was my first nurse when I was in PTL and she was great. I agreed to start the IV. I had been wondering how I was going to survive if the contractions already hurt this much! So the anesthesiologist came and I liked him, I wasn't worried about getting the epi in. The nurse stood right in front of me and we held on and she told me a story about another woman who was doing fine and all of a sudden she jumped off the bed and ran naked into the hall. Lol. (later she tells us about another time when the anestheisiologist's phone rang and he had forgotten to hand it to her before, so she is trying to hold the patient and grab his phone that is on him but at the same time she hears "momma goin down" behind her, which the patient's mom says as she is fainting, so she also had to catch her and hit the call button all at once! So funny. So yeah, she made DH sit down.) The epi was fine and gave me awesome coverage--I was feeling great and my BP calmed down. So the nurse checks me and I'm at 6cm!!! Not long after, she has to put the cath in so she gets the stuff for that. The first one doesn't go in so we have to re-do it. Meanwhile she decides to check again--7cm!!! The new cath goes in but it is burning and I start getting crabby because I was enjoying being pain-free..lol. So she puts something on it to see if that helps and eventually it goes away. I try to get a nap but I think it was only 10 mins. DH sleeps like a baby! Can't remember when but earlier on they had done an u/s to confirm vertex/vertex.

Ok so they tell me that my OB is on her way back in town, so she will probably get here in time to deliver. I start feeling my contractions so I hit the button on the epi. I have a feeling things are still going quickly because I keep needing to hit the button. They check me again and I'm at 10cm!!!! But baby still needs to come down. They tell my OB and she is still over an hour away, but somehow baby and I manage to hold on and she gets here right in time!! We go back to the OR to get ready.

This is kinda detailed, so skip down if you haven't given birth yet!! Baby still needs to come down more. After some pushing, my OB says I need a little Pitocin. After that, the pain got worse. Hitting my epi button doesn't seem to do jack. There is one spot on my left between my thigh and abdomen that hurts so bad like it isn't numb at all. The further down baby gets, the more pain I feel. Not just pressure like I was expecting!!! My Dr has her hands down there doing who knows what the whole time and it is so uncomfortable! My OB apologizes for the epidural but of course there is nothing we can do. It feels like forever that I have to push. At some point one of the nurses standing by for c-section knocks a tray of stuff to the floor or something--it was such a loud crash, everyone turned, including me. I wanted to laugh, but couldn't. Lol. Dr asks me if I want to use the vacuum since he still has a little more to move down and she is concerned about my stamina and a 2nd baby still to push. I try to hold out but the truth is, having to do this AGAIN is all I can think about. One thing I've realized is that when your OB and nurses sound so encouraging during your pushes and you think you are moving the baby an inch at a time, it is really more like a millimeter--lol. So I ask for the vacuum since I have NO CLUE how much it is going to hurt. Everyone keeps telling me "you are going to feel some pressure now"...yeah, I screamed when she was putting that thing in. I am trying as hard as I can to get the baby out--I am fed up now, lol. I can feel the head, body wiggling, so weird. OB tells me to reach down and feel baby--that was kinda neat/weird. At some point my Dr had to cut me a little--I think before the vacuum. I felt the cutting but not that bad.
So after an hour and 40 mins, baby comes out and cries immediately, which was awesome! He is huge! DH follows him to take pics and they bring him back in for a minute to show me and announce he is 6lb 15oz!!! So I am thinking, great, because this whole time my peri has been saying B is bigger and they haven't been fully scanned in a few wks, so I have no clue.

Thought I was gonna get a break but right away B is coming down and we have to start already!!! I'm thinking I can't risk having twins again after this, I won't survive, lol. So here we go again, pushing and pushing, and eventually my Dr asks me about the vacuum again. At this point I just want to be done, can't take it anymore, so I say yes and this time it is not as bad as the first vacuum and B comes out faster--50 mins after A. He doesn't cry immediately and is purple but DH said they cleared him out and he was fine right away. Dr says I now have a 3rd degree tear and tells the nurse I need a local since I could feel so much stuff down there. She starts stitching me but I'm losing a lot of blood so she says she has to go in after my placentas because they are only partially separating. NOT fun. Then she finishes stitching me, which isn't too bad at all. I saw the thing she was using to stitch me up--looks like a big fishhook! Baby A must've passed B is size at some point because B is 'only' 6lb 12oz.
I do have to say, despite the pain, I am sooo grateful for a healthy pregnancy, safe delivery and 2 awesome little babies!!! Omg it is unbelievable. The staff were really excited about their sizes. My OB was like, yeah I think the peri's estimates were underestimated!

Finally, we go back to the room!! Babies are brought to us and it is soooo amazing. Can't believe they were in my belly. DH asks me which one should be Silas and which should be Ezra and I happen to choose what he is thinking, so that was easy! I try to get in a wheelchair to move to Postpartum but as soon as I sit up, I feel soooo sick. Nurse says it is normal, just lie back down and get a little food on your stomach. I'm starving and thirsty so I go for it. I start to feel better and the nurse offers to help get the babies to latch on. We try that for a few mins and then it's time to move. Our parents have been waiting hours to see the babies. So we get in the new room and I decide I want to try peeing. They take me to the bathroom and I feel so horrible and I tell them I'm going to faint. They say its ok, just lean on them. I black out for a few seconds, wake up, and they are taking me to the bed. They tell me it is because of my loss of blood and that they are going to be watching closely. After lunch though, I feel a lot better and eventually at some point I am able to get to the bathroom by myself.

Great story! You sound like you had a very supportive team taking care of you!

Those babies were HUGE for 37w4d! My singleton DS was only 6 lb 13 oz when he was born at 40w1d.

    Way to go!
