On Wednesday, February 18th, I called my ob's office because my hands were pretty swollen. His office called back to tell me not to worry, and he'd see me the next day for my NST. When I got there for the test that thursday, my head was pounding. They were nice enough to dim the lights for me. My OB wasn't there tho, because he was delivering a baby. Toward the end of my test, the nurse dipped my urine and it was 3+ for protein, so she called the ob, who sent me to L&D for monitoring.

By the time I'd gotten there after getting our other kids situated, I was dying. I felt like crap. Nauseated, with the headache, and sharp pains in my side. They redipped my urine and it was a 4+... not sure the time frame between this tho...

Sometime in the night, my nurse came in and said my ob (aka the ***) was going to send me home. I just lost it and started bawling. I knew I shouldn't go home. Something was not right. I told her I had a feeling if I went home, something bad was going to happen. She then shut my room door and told me that in confidence if she were me, she would not go home, and I had the right to refuse going home. A while later tho, my doc came in and said that he was going to do a 12 hour urine catch. The nurses really went to bat for me, they stuck up for me!

So 12 hours later, the decision was made to go ahead and deliver. I was prepped, and wheeled into the smallest O.R. I'd ever seen.. once Derek came in, the process seemed to happen fast...I remember hearing the doctor say to the students, "If you see a head or a foot, grab it!"

On February 20th, at 6:24pm Presten Derek came into the world..... followed at 6:25pm by his Brother Julian Lester. Presten was 6LBS. 4oz, 18 In. long, and Julian was 5 LBS. 8oz 17.5 In.

Presten ended up being sent to another hospital for breathing issues, while Julian was fine and stayed with me in my room.

I spent four days in the hospital recovering, when I finally got the okay to go home. As I was waiting for my discharge papers, the nurses came in and did their routine BP check... throughout the day it had been slowly creeping up.. and this last time all I can remember was that the bottom number was 158. Not good. As fast as it had went after delivery, the swelling, nausea and headache came back, followed with the high bp. They quickly cancelled my discharge. I saw a few different doctors, and they put me on a magnesium IV, to prevent seizure. I was one of the lucky 20 percent to delevop Pre-Eclampsia after delivery. Luckily, they've got it under control. I have to take BP meds for now, and I was officially discharged the 24th.

Sadly tho, I had to go home empty handed. It was harder than anything. Presten in Fresno an hour away, and I hadn't seen him yet. Julian having to stay in my hospital because the day of discharge his billiruben rose up. It hurt so bad leaving them behind.

Thankfully tho, both boys came last night, together.

It was a long tiring night, but so worth it!

Congratulations on your sweet boys. I am so glad you stood up for your intuition - that really teaches a lot to me (and probably some others.) I'm so proud of your nurse too. Most of all - glad you all three are home safe and sound!
