I was just wondering if anyone could explain to me if I will find out if I am having a c section or natural birth? Do they tell you before it is time and if so what would be the reasons for a c section? I am 18 weeks with boys just found out at 12 weeks it was twins.. The doctor said they were in seperate sacs, but the membrain was so thin most likely they were identical??? Every time I go to the doctor I just get more confused..Can anyone help?

Well, I can tell you that in my case I had a planned c-section at 38 weeks because my Baby A was breech and blocking the door. That's fairly common, because they don't have the room to move around themselves at that point, and there's no way that the OB can shift them around. If it's Baby B that is breech they are likely to try a vaginal birth because once Baby A is out they can then move Baby B into a head first position.

I would discuss it with your doctor. It's not too early.

I agree, discuss it with your doctor. Some doctors will only do c-sec twins, due to risks. Some make you deliver in the OR due to the risks. I delivered in the OR, the doc wanted a c-section since baby B was breech, but I begged for vag and it all worked out OK! Make your list of questions for your next appt.

    And, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

You won't know until you get closer to your due date. Even then, if the babies are in position for a vaginal birth, things could change and you might need to have a c-section. There's just no way to predict the type of birth they'll have.

As for the membrane, thickness or thinness doesn't mean anything. It all depends on how many placentas you have. You could have two and they could have fused together, looking like one. In my case, I have one in the front and one in the back, so definitely two. This most likely means my twins are fraternal. There's still a small chance for identical. I was on clomid when they were conceived, so I would bet they're fraternal.

    Welcome and congrats!!!!

I wanted a c/s as soon as I found out and the dr's wanted a vaginal birth. I would discuss it with you dr and see what their recommendations are. They may wait till you are closer and see their positions. Sorry it is so confusing. It is all a very emotional time and whole new experience. Do you have any other children? If so, how were those births?

My baby A was vertex for several weeks before delivery, but baby b kept changing positions right up until the very end. She was small (5 lbs. 3 oz.) and we were easily able to have a vaginal delivery even though she was breech. She came out butt first after only three pushes. I did have three other vaginal births prior to this though, one of them an 8 lb. 8 oz. baby. I think my OB would have preferred a c-sec, but I begged at every appt. to try even if B was breech. It worked out great for us! :)

Unless both of mine are head down, then it's a c-section for me. None of the doctors at the practice I go to will deliver a breech baby b. They were both head down last time I had an u/s, but that can always change. I figure I won't know what I'm doing until I'm in the hospital. I go back and forth on what I want daily. There are pros and cons to both, I guess. It's the not knowing that drives me crazy.

You will talk about a birth plan with your OB. For some you get the choice for a C-section or vaginal. I wanted to do vaginal because I didn't know what to expect with the healing from a c-section. thankfully I did get to have it my way and it wasn't as a big deal as what people told me.

congrats on the twins, you are going to love being pregnant with them!! :D

My girls were born in Jan and my c-section was scheduled the previous October. my OB preferred the c-section unless both were head down. 2 weeks before the birth, both were head down so they told me that when I went to the hospital - if they were still heads down - we could do an induction instead of a c-section. 4 days prior to the birth they flipped again - baby A breech and B transverse which is how they stayed until they were born by c-section!

    CONGRATULATIONS on your babies!!!

We were sure it would be a c/s once we found out that the babies weren't growing well due to TTTS. It would have been a very traumatic birth for them being so small. So I braced myself for that, since I'd really wanted a repeat of my awesome birht experience with DD1.

It just depends on the situation!

Like the others have said, it's a different situation for everyone, so I would talk to your doctor. I had a scheduled c/s because my dd was laying across and honestly I didn't want to do a vaginal and a c/s. Good luck!! :hug99:

I had a c/s with my DD so I think they tend to go in that direction again, especially since I am now having twins. You will discuss it with your Dr as the time gets closer. Good Luck!

I asked my dr since I had heard that some only want to do c/s with twins. He said we could schedule the c/s but see how things go and always cancel if it looked favorable for a vag birth. So my c/s was on the books early, set for 38 weeks. At 34 weeks they were both head down so I was hoping to try vag. Then at 37 weeks my blood pressure started going up. The dr wanted to watch me very carefully. I came back for a recheck and it was even higher and he said I was developing pre-e. The babies needed to come out soon but I was not dilated even a tiny bit. He said we could try an induction but thought it would be a very rough labor since I wasn't dilated on my own. He also asked about our plans for any future children (if we wanted 5 more a c/s may not be the best choice) and asked how much help I would have after the babies came home. Eventually we decided to go ahead with the c/s. I was really worried about running into problems with baby B and c/s seemed like the safest alternative. Everything went well and the babies did great, so I guess we made the right decision.
Just try to remain a little flexible in your expectations for your birth. It's frustrating but you may not know until the very end.

I dont get a birthing plan or choice (I live in Spain) of what delivery I want.

Baby A (boy) has been head down for a couple of months but baby B (girl) has stayed feet down. I was told it would most likely be a VB. However at my 34 week u/s, we discovered that baby B has turned to head down! Definitely a VB now unless Baby A does something unusual! Im going in a little blind to giving birth also as I don´t get my questions answered very well here. My babies are weighing approx 5.7lbs and 5.3lbs respectively so Im hoping it wont be too long before they make their grand entrance - I cant possibly stretch anymore! ;)

I would suggest talking to your doctor about it so s/he can reassure you but it´s still early days. GL!
