I need some help!! Emma is my binky addict, although only for naps and bedtime. She doesn't get them any other time during the day. I throw a handful in her crib at night and very rarely have to go in there to find one for her.

The past couple of nights she has been sick so I'm not sure if it's been because of that but I have had to go in time and time again to find them because she keeps throwing ALL of them out!! This morning she started crying at 6:00 a.m. and I could hear them dropping one at a time out of her crib. She has been in there fussing and whining for 45 min. (Lauren is still asleep) because I refuse to go in there...one...more...time. I was up a lot last night with her.

So tell me, at almost 19 months do you think I will go through he!! trying to take them away at this point? Should I suck it up to get through this sickness and take it away later?

honestly this is when we got rid of Abby's - she had a cold and couldn't breathe with it in her mouth (but she was an ALL day binky kind of girl) and after she got over her cold I just never gave them back - it took a few days of being whiny but she never asked for them!

:hug99: Michelle. I'm sorry you are having a tough time right now. I know...IT SUCKS! Both my boys like their binky's...like Emma they usually just have them for naps and bedtime. I am dreading taking them away. Although I am no expert, my suggestion would be to wait until she is finished with her sickies and then try to go cold turkey. I really don't know though. It's just so hard when they are sick to try to change things on them since they seem to need all the comfort they can get.

I hope she gets better soon so you can accomplish the taking away of the binky. IF we decide to have another baby in the future I am going to try REALLY hard to not use a binky or take it away really early.

Take care Chelley and I hope you have a better day. :give_rose:

Honestly Chelley, sometimes it's so darn hard to be the parent! I say if she's fussy anyway, and throwing them out, take the plunge. My boys are both pacy addicts for naps and bedtime. I'm not looking forward to the extinction of the pacy, either. Seriously, if she's throwing them out, let them stay on the floor. Sorry it's tough there right now!

Chelle, John used his binky for naps and bedtime til 3. They were falling apart and when the last one did, I told him he wasn't getting another one. We decided together it was time to say goodbye. I never had a problem with it though because he always had a few in his bed. Its your call, but I don't think I would be too worried about it yet.

You are giving me PTSD. my ds has never slept the same since we took his binky away. WE waited until 2 y/o so maybe sooner would have been better. If she is throwing them out, I think I wold take is as a queue that maybe she doesn't need them anymore. Then again, I do regret taking ds binky away when we did. Who knows. All I can say is, if you decide to stop the binkies...May the force be with you.

We gave up the binkys just before they turned two. We did it cold turkey after Nolan bit through one at daycare. We had maybe two - three nights of h3ll, but okay after that. I will say that without the binkys, naptime got sooooooo much harder. I hope she is feeling better! :hug99:

Michelle, not sure what advice to give you on this one. I am the pacifier supporter. Yes, I enable my child's addiction to her bobo. I will not take it away unless she starts biting through them which she hasn't ever done thus far. As far as I'm concerned, I'm going to let her keep them in her crib only until she is ready to give them up. That way I know there will be no fuss. She is not a good sleeper to begin with and I'm just not ready for it to be any worse. It is the ONLY thing she has that comforts her. I have tried to get her into a doll or a blanket or something but she has no interest. So for now, I'll just go with the flow and do whatever keeps her content. As for the throwing them out of the crib, I give them once chance for that and if they do it again, too bad. I will NOT play that game.

Caroline used hers for naps and bedtime until she was 3 and then we gave it to Santa that year. I honestly can't image giving it up at 19 months, but that is me. I don't remember ever really having a problem with her throwing them out of her crib. Sorry I am no help, maybe she is just doing it because she is not feeling well. Good luck with whatever you decided.

    Chelley,

Rebekah did that to us before she turned a year...I honestly don't remember her age at the time. She didn't exactly throw them out, but she would cry and whine and when we went into the room and try to give her the paci, she wouldn't take it. So, I frustrated and took it away. Also, around this same age as our girls, Renay started wanting her paci all the time. She like your girls and Rachel only took it at bed and nap times. Well, we went ahead and took it away. As pp said, it took about 3 days of really hard times of crying and whining before it got better. So, if you do make the decision to take it away, just know in about 3 days it'll be much better. If it were me, I would do it, but you do what you need to do to get through it. GL and I hope she starts to feel better. Love ya!

Mine use theirs mostly at naps and bedtime as well, AND they throw all of them out of their cribs too. However, for mine anyway, I don't know that means they're ready to give them up - they throw everything else out of their cribs too: books, toys, blankets, sippy cups...it's a game; they try to hand each other things. We gave up the pacy a little over 2 yrs w/our older son. I cut a tiny hole in it and explained that it was starting to break. As we "lost" the extras, we told him when that last one was gone, there would be no more. He handled it relatively well. I think it'll be harder w/the twins.

    Good luck.
