the best Christmas present ever

Last Christmas, we had just found out that DS had severe IUGR. He'd dropped from over 90th percentile to below 2nd. I was only 25 weeks along, and we had no idea how much longer it would be safe for him to stay inside, and whether we would face the horrible choice of whether to risk both babies by delivering super-early (before 28 wks) to try to save him. It was the most miserable holiday ever. We were sick with terror.

And this year, we're celebrating Christmas with two happy, healthy, thriving, adorable babies. We made it to 34 weeks, both babies have had no problems whatsoever, and our tiny IUGR baby is now bigger than his sister (and she's no pipsqueak!). It's enough to bring tears to our eyes. We are so thankful. Just this morning, I was nursing the babies and remembering what life was like one year ago, and I thought, "This is my Christmas present."

You made me cry!!! That is just beautiful.

Last year I was having contractions (and I was like 22 or 23 weeks) and we were very worried. I was put on meds and bedrest right after christmas. We also made it to 34 weeks and now you would never know these girls were tiny... they are healthy, crazy, funny, amazing little girls - less like babies every day.

Enjoy your holiday with your two 'presents'!!! :)

That's wonderful. Last Christmas I was wondering and hoping that IVF would work after trying other treatments first. I had just left my job and was still on a break from the treatments. It was a depressing holiday :( . This Christmas we have two babies :D . I'm so glad you shared this and are having a 'merry' time with yours.

That's wonderful!! Congratulations to you and your family!

I have to also say that at Christmas last year I cried and cried because I didn't have a baby, I wasn't even pregnant. I thought IVF would never work for me(we had done 3 by this point). We were going to do another fresh cycle in January. Now as I type I look at my 9 week old twin boys. Amazing how much changes in a year-and what a quick one at that!

I will still cry this year-but for many-and better reasons!

    Merry Christmas!

Thanks for the reminder to focus on what's important! It hardly compares, but you made me think about how miserable I as a year ago and how very well worth it all the vomiting was :)

Congratulations on your healthy, happy babies! And may the next year be even more rewarding.

That's wonderful to read -- life is good, huh? Enjoy Christmas with your little ones!

Last Christmas wasn't great for us, either, for way too many reasons to list -- but this year, we are a family of five, and healthy and so grateful!
