We don't know if our boys are id or not, and it's driving me crazy. That's one of the first questions people ask, of course. Anyway, has anybody done the tests that are advertised on here? Just wondering, the ped office said they'd have to pull blood from their arms and I don't want to do that.

We did proactive genetics, and no, they do not draw blood! They send you a kit in the mail with swabs that you rub on their gums and inside of their cheeks. Completely painless.

I know how you feel, I was tired of being asked and saying I didn't know...

I have found that almost everyone that feels they need to test find out their twins are ID..

    Good luck!

That's the one I've been reading about. I was just wondering if someone had done it, and I wanted to be sure it was an ok company. I can do a swab, just not blood.

How old were yours when you tested them?

We were told from early on that our girls were fraternal b/c they were in different sacs with different placenta's and they couldnt be identical. I was about 6 months pregnant and was researching something (dont remember what) and I read that there was a 25% chance that our girls could be ID. I didnt think much about it until after they were born b/c they looked so much alike, we couldnt tell them apart. All the nurses were asking and we kept saying that we didnt know. It got really old getting the weird looks from people after you tell them that you dont know...When the girls were 4 months old we sent off for a DNA package through a company in Canada, I want to say Genetix (or something like that, I dont remember) I saw an ad on TV.

It was really simple. They sent us 4 long swabs per child, they looked like big Q-tips, and we had to swab each babies cheeks a total of 4 times, 2 on each side. We heard from them within 2 weeks with the results. It was very simple and only cost around $150. I dont regret doing it at all, b/c now I know they are ID and dont have to deal with crazy looks anymore lol!

We used affiliated genetics - they use the cotton swabs too. I think the cost of the test was $150. It was worth it to know for sure. We did the test when they were a month old and still in the hospital.

We were told the same thing from the high risk OB's. My regular OB, who is not a young man, was the only Doc who told me he thought they were ID. His reason? "You couldn't get pregnant for so many years, and with so much help and you just went and did it on your own. There is no way you also dropped two eggs![IMG]"

    Mine are ID.

I think they were about 5 or 6 months old... You can do it anytime, their DNA won't change! [IMG]

I used Proactive Genetics, I did a lot of research on it, they are by far the cheapest and don't require a blood draw. It's so easy and definately worth your time and money to find out. People treat you like your a bad mum if you tell them you don't know if they are ID or not, plus we thought it is part of the boy's history and they deserve to know if there is another person who has the same DNA as them. I know this one lady, her twins are 15 years old, she never had them tested and doesn't intend to, she just has a strong feeling they are ID, I don't think that is fair to the boys. Anyhow, I think the whole thing took about two weeks, from the time I ordered the kit until we got the results. Let us know when you find out!

We finally ordered a test. It was killing me not knowing so we're waiting for results now (and waiting is no fun either!) I ordered from Affiliated Genetics and it's been a positive experience so far.

The age of the persons being tested doesn't matter BUT I'd suggest doing it BEFORE they get old enough to grab the swab. I felt like Mama Octapus trying to keep hands off & mouthes open. [IMG]

We were in the same situation! We ordered from Proactive Genetics and it was great[IMG] It is SO nice to know. Whenever I would tell people I didn't know the classic was, "you don't know if your babies were in the same sack or not?" I didn't even want to have to go there any more!!!

My doctor tested the placentas at birth. Since they had different blood types, she said there was NO way they were identical! Plus, they really do look different! Nothing like brothers!

I ordered the test late last night. I can't wait to know. It's absolutely killing me. My ob and their ped both think that they are, mainly due to growth patterns, etc. They look ID, but I know that can change as they get older, too. I'd just like to be able to answer 'yes' or 'no' without all the extra info that follows when I hav to say we don't know.
