Terrible 3s - I hope it's not only me?

They are so argumentative, the tantrums are awful and in the most inapprorpiate times (of course they're old enough to know when to 'strike'). We are waiting them out, etc. trying not go give in, but it's sooo hard arguing with them after a day of work or when you're in the rush to leave.

Then it's the toys - they were able to somehow keep things semi-organized until they were 3 yrs od. Now -it's a disaster. The toys are all over their room. lego mixed with crayons, little poeple, doctors stuff and any other suff. No order.. We have the bins but at this point I am giving up... .I am able to get them to clean up the legos, but that's about it....

Oh - and they carry al the mixed toys in those baby strollers...

    I just hope it's only a phase...

    Please give me some hope!
    Thanks,
    Ela

2 was just a preparation for the evil 3 yr old phase. At this age they try every trick they can think of to make us nuts! I wish I was joking lol. Hold firm...cry in the bathroom where they can't see you(or scream in a pillow).

I know there are some days yuo want to run..I think this a bit myself when there at there worst behaviour. Last week! Bad memories. It ends. It better end!lol

I'm right there with u, I don't know wot to say really, not advice.

I do find with my two that they switch with each other, usually for weeks/months at a time. If one is having tantrums the other tends not to, and then they switch.. so a little easier.

the toys, well thats exactly the same I keep saying I'm going to get rid of 50-75% I've had enough.

    Good job they're cute haha

All the talk about the terrible twos, and noone prepares you for the horrible 3's!! It does get better, they just like to test their/your limits at this age!

In my opinion, 3 was far worse than 2, and 4 was much better than both! Hang in there!

Hang in there and be as consistent with discipline as possible. They want to badly to exert their independence and make choices. I try to pick my battles. Respecting their parents, one another and other people being paramount in our house. They do go in and out of their phases (at least mine have so far). Hopefully, yours are ready for a new phase. :icon_biggrin:

I found the 2's much more physically challenging(alot of chasing after in the early 2's) and now at 3...more mentally challenging at times. They really know how to test their boundries. Overall though, I'm having a much better time of things in the 3's than 2's. Such improved communication, potty trained, so much less destructive, being able to sit through a whole meal at a restaurant, church, etc scores the 3's higher for me, personally. Now I've probably jinxed myself. :icon_eek:

I'm right there with all of you. 3's are HORRIBLE!!!! Sweet one minute, but scary the next. I'm curious though, is anyone else worried about what their neighbors must think? I swear my 3 year olds scream so loud during tantrums that I have to make sure all my windows are closed. Sometimes I am too embarressed to even look at my neighbors. Hopefully this "phase" will end SOON.

Mine are already doing those things. I just have to get firm with them. They know when mommy means business. When they are having a tantrum, I look at them and say mommy isn't listening... and I walk away. Jack will get so mad he rolls in the floor screaming. When he is done, he comes to me, and he gets a hug. Then usually the rest of the day is better.

Yep...Annie's 3s were much worse than 2. I often wished for my super sweet 2yo back. Now that she's 4 not a whole lot has changed. More attitude and back talk. Next year she'll be in school 4days a week in the mornings. Hopefully her sttitude will inprove when she's not home with me all day!
