    Hi ladies,
I hope everyone is doing well! I am expecting b/g twins in March (I'm 30 weeks along). Last week I was having a lot of BH contractions, and I told my OB about it at my appointment yesterday, and she gave me a prescription for terbutaline and told me if it happens again, I should take some, and if the contractions don't stop in an hour, I need to call them. At first I was relieved to have something to take in case it happens again, but then I came home and started researching terbutaline, and it seems to be a controversial drug, so now I'm nervous about the possibility of having to take it. Does anyone have any thought/experience with this drug?

    Thanks so much!!

I took it with 2 of my pg's. I did help me some. I also have asthma, so I figured it couldn't hurt my breathing either. LOL I did get jittery with it.

I don't know if this helps much, but i was given Turbetaline (sp?) last week during and after laser ablation surgery for TTTS. I had to go back in the hospital for water leaking afterwards and had a few contractions, but was given notthing for them. Maybe it is because I only had a few contractions or because i am only 20 weeks and not yet at viability??? I'm not sure. That's just been my experience with it - i would check back with your doctor to get more info. :)

I have been on it with 2 different pregnancies. With my twins....I was on it at 20-21 weeks...I was having preterm labor....I had to be monitored very closely, it does play with your Heartrate and Bloodpressure. I would take it as easy as you can, drink plenty of water(dehydration leads to contractions) and take it only if needed.

Good luck to you and your little ones, you are almost there!

I took it with my daughter when I went into PTL at 24wks, b/t that and the bedrest was probably what got us to go so far....The side effects was nasty...rapid heartrate, shaky, headaches....but far better than dealing with a micro-preemie. Hope everything works for you!!!

I took terb when I was pregnant with my girls. It worked great, but the side effects are awful! That being said, the benefits definitely outweighed the risks in my situation, and I did what I had to do to keep my girls in as long as possible. Good Luck!

Ditto PPs...drink tons, relax, stay on your left side, take the meds as you need them.

I was on terbutaline from 22 weeks on (with constant contractions) and it helped me keep these two in until 37 weeks. We had no NICU time at all and both babies have been completely healthy and totally on track so far. The side effects for you aren't too bad (shortness of breath, rapid heart rate) and the ones I read for the babies weren't even proven. I think I read about "links" to ADHD or autism. What doesn't have a link to those two things? It seems like researchers are trying so hard to find out why those they are on the rise. It was far better to risk ADHD or autism than to deliver at 22 weeks and possibly lose my babies. So far, no signs of anything other than extremely happy babies! Take the meds if you need them and keep those little ones cooking!
