Hello all! I have read a few posts to get this question answered, but I was wanting to get more than one or two answers, just out of curiosity.

How long after discontinuing the use of Terbutaline did actual labor start?

A little about me...Went into hospital at about 30 weeks and was having contractions, started Terb in hospital and went home on it and bedrest. Back in hospital at 31 weeks for contractions and had mag sulfate, then back on Terb.

My doctor says he will have me discontinue use at 36 weeks because it would be fine to deliver any time after that. So that is why I am wondering.

Thanks everyone for your replies! Now that I am almost 34 weeks, I am getting so anxious to meet my sweet baby boys! But, not too soon, I want to be able to go home with them!

I was on Terb up until the day I delivered. My Dr. told me that they would discontinue all medications at 34 weeks.

I am sorry that you are having to deal with this! Terb was my least favorite of all the drugs I had to take for PTL (including mag!). GL!!

I was on terb from 22 weeks until 36...went into labor exactly a week later...easy delivery (I thought the weeks of contractions prepped me) and both babies came home with us 2 days later :) GL!

I was only on Terbutaline for a couple weeks, and a low dose. My blood pressure was a bit elevated and I had been vomiting prior to my 36 week appt. Because I live 1.25 hours from the hospital in the mountains and a storm was coming, my OB wouldn't let me go home. She told me to stop taking the Terb and admitted me. It seemed like I was in labor during the night and I was still contracting in the morning, but was then given Pitocin to move things along, so not sure if the labor would have progressed on its own.

I was on a terbulatine pump from week 29 to 36 weeks 3 days. I went off on Sunday morning and starting to have tons of contractions on Monday. Went to L &D was sent home due to no progress and my water broke Tuesday morning at 6:30 am.
I hated being on the terb but really attribute how long my babies stayed in to the medication working. My doctor said that only 20% of people who take the meds go into labor on their own within 4 days after stopping, when they are that far along.

I only had 2 shots of terbutaline at 32.5 weeks which stopped labor. They wouldn't let me take it at home without some kind of pump, so I didn't use it. I refused to take Magnesium because I haven't heard good things about it(my regular OB was out of town when I made that decision. He supported my decision and said it used to be the gold standard, but a lot of doctors aren't using it anymore other than to get the two steroid shots in). I went home on Procardia but it made me feel like my heart was going to stop so I stopped taking it and make it to 35.2 weeks when my water broke.

I quit taking it at 34 weeks and was actually induced at 36 weeks so my labor never started back up

Thank you to everyone for your replies.

I am allowed to stop taking my Terb at 36 weeks and I was trying to predict when things would start happening after that.

    Keep them coming!

My first hospital visit was tributilean (however you spell it) shot and home on bed rest at 28 weeks. At 31 1/2 I dialated to 1 and waas in the hospital on nephedapean (again ? on spelling). Contractions all the time from 20 weeks on. We went hom eon nephedapean and bedrest. At 33 1/2 they said I could start movign a little. At 34 all restrictions came off and all contractions stopped -funny right. Gave birth at 36 1/2 when my water broke. I know I could not wait at 34 weeks and wanted it to be there so bad but really every day they stay in means things will be a lot easier for you!

    good luck

I was on Terb from 26-36 weeks. 4 pills a day, every 6 hours. I was a jittery mess at first, but got used to it.

I went off exactly at 36 weeks and delivered at 36w3d. I was having a ton of contractions ... went to L&D, gave me saline drip to help my hydration. But they didn't slow the contractions ... and my doc said "Let's do it!"

    wow ... seems like yesterday.

Ok guys, I have another question regarding discontinuing the Terb at 36 weeks. The main reason for my question is because of my family, not me. I am perfectly happy with stopping the medication at 36 weeks (which is Monday) like my doctor has said.

My sister is concerned that if the twins aren't considered full term until 37 weeks, why do they tell us to stop the Terb at 36 weeks?

I left so stupid because I couldn't answer her question. It almost made me feel like I was a bad "mommy 2 be" because I didn't already know the answer.

So, does anyone know why my doctor and it seems like a lot of yours have said that it is ok to stop the Terb at 36 weeks?

Thanks! I grow more and more frustrated with my family each and every day!!!!
