Temper fits anyone?

Today DS was walking around throwing a toy pan deliberatley b/c I guess he liked the sound it made on my ceramic tile floor. Well istead of having cracked tile, I tried to replace the toy with something a little more floor-friendly since he wanted to throw it. DS got mad and PURPOSELY ran right into the front door. The door was closed, aluminum. He screamed and held his nose. I calmed him and distracted him with something to do.
DH said DS will only do it once, maybe twice before he learns it hurts. He's had little fits before and I normally don't pay it much attention. But this one made me think he would need to dee the doctor. The thump was so loud!

This is my first boy and I am wondering, is it a boy thing? DD throws fits but she gently lowers herself to the floor (diva-style) to have them.

Anything else to do besides just let it play out?

You are doing what I do. I pretty much ignore unless it is likely that he or she will be hurt. Zach goes to the floor, but falls down "Nestea Plunge" style, even on the hard floor. So, I do kind of help him lay down so as not to get hurt in the process. I figure that if he gets hurt then I need to respond thereby somewhat giving into the tantrum. If I can keep him from getting hurt then it I can ignore him until he is done and then move one with the day.

    Good luck.

I've alerted the 1-5 mods about your triple post.

As to the content of your post, I think you are right, you just have to wait it out. Sometimes I might say something like, "I know you are mad, but I don't want you to break my floor, so you be mad or you find something else to do...want to play with the computer?" Which is to say, acknowledge how they are feeling, tell them why you had to ask them to stop and provide an alternative. Sometimes I think they think we don't understand them at all (often we don't!) and once they start tantruming they don't know how to stop unless provided with an alternative.

My DD threw some major tantrums. She would throw herself back and the thud you heard seemed deafening. She doesn't do that anymore. I think she finally learned that it doesn't help & it hurts. Good luck!
