Our girls will be coming home from the nicu in the next two weeks. So far the only way I can tell them apart is who is on what side of the bed. I've been given a few ideas for telling them apart, but would like to hear how you did it??

Fingernail polish... isn't it toxic if they chew on their hands won't it flake off?? Is there a non-toxic one?
    Fake tattoos??
ankets?? where do you get them?

Can you put a different pair of socks on them, like different colors, one pink and one lavendar? That might help... you can keep one of their toes painted and then when you bathe them you can put the socks and the purple outfit on the one with the toe polish. What do you think?

We still don't have the genetic proof that are boys are identical, but most people can't tell them apart. I can now, but when they were newborn we painted a single toe with different nail polish colors on each boy and then my mom bought anklets with their names on them. After looking at their faces enough, they looked different to me though. Good luck!

Our boys are ID but b/c Colby's always been smaller, we haven't had trouble telling them apart. We had planned to do a few things to help ourselves, though, if we had trouble:
    - nailpolish (just on one of their toes - they won't suck on those things for awhile so you're safe)
    - write "A" or "B" with a sharpie on their diapers

    good luck!

WE DON'T KNOW FOR SURE IF OURS ARE IDENTICAL, WE ARE STILL WAITING ON THE RESULTS. BUT EVERYONE SAYS THEY LOOK JUST THE SAME. I CAN TELL THEM APART, BUT MY HUSBAND STILL HAS SOME TROUBLE IF HE DOESNT LOOK REAL CLOSE, BUT I USUALLY PUT PURPLE ON ONE & PINK ON THE OTHER. ALSO HOPE HAD A LIGHT STRAWBERRY MARK ABOVE HER LEFT EYE WHEN SHE WAS BORN. THAT HELPED SOME BUT IT IS STARTING TO FADE.

    GOOD LUCK

Thankfully I didn't have a issue with this because Liberty was born with way more hair. So they never wore hats, thankfully it was hot summer. :) I did make little anklets just in case I couldn't tell them apart.

We went the cheap and easy route -- we put a hair elastic (one of the no snag kind without metal clasps, of course!) around Celeste's ankle. She was skinny enough that it didn't fit close around her leg, but it was small enough that it wouldn't just fall off her foot. By the time she had grown enough that the elastic would have been too snug, we could easily tell them apart and didn't need it.

  8. Paint one's toes
put a stamp on the bottom of one's foot
    dress in different colors
    swaddle in different colors
keep the nicu bracelet on them for a little while (theyre used to it anyway!)

My boys looked a lot alike when they first came home. I could always tell them apart after a second close look but DH had a hard time. I one's wrist band and the other's ankle band on for close to a month before I was confident that I wouln't mix them up. James ankle band got tight first so we took his off and left Jack's wrist band on. Now we have no problems telling them apart but other people get them mixed up all the time.

I could tell mine apart, pretty quickly, but for everyone elses sake, we left the hospital anklets on for as long as we could. Mia was such a peanut it was on for a couple of weeks...

We left the hospital ID bands on for as long as we could. We always put Jordan on the left and Mackenzie on the right. We also tried to put them in same outfits, but different colors. Purple for Jordan and pink for Mackenzie. We didn't do the nail polish ar any other markings. After a few weeks, I didn't think they looked all that much alike. And their personalities are different. You'll be fine.

We used a color scheme and painted one's big toe.

J&Z are frats and look very different but we didn't know going to the hospital. I took a sharpie just in case. I was going to put a small spot on one of them or maybe initial on the back of hands. Sharpie will soak in so it can't flake off and won't wash off by accident.

Congrats on your pending homecoming and welcome to FY.

Thanks for the great ideas. I think once we get them home I'll be able to tell who's who, but untill then these will be helpful.

So anyone else have the older siblings that can tell the difference before you could?

Our boys look like they might be ID (a lot ppl think so) but I always try to keep one on the left the other on the right. But if Im ever in doubt I open their diapers, one little guy is a bit bigger than the other. I can tell them apart 99.9% of the time.

I like the idea of putting polish on the toe nails. Socks can be easy to slip off though. Once you get them home you will find little differences in them. Good luck

I have bracelets (they are anklets for the moment until they grow into them!). I found them at an upscale children's clothing store in Montgomery, AL called "The Name Dropper"; I'm sure they have a website. The bracelets were made by "My Sweet Pea". They are very cute! Good luck and congrats on getting your girls home!

I put toenail polish on Allison. I chose the toes because my girls kept their fingers in their mouths constantly. Our girls looked exactly alike when we came home.

The nurses at our hospital said some moms write an initial or A/B on each baby's foot with a Sharpie, or put a little, soft bracelet on one baby's wrist (like a friendship bracelet)
