As I posted in the 1st bday thread we had about 30ppl friends and family at my mom's...for their 2nd bday we had a very small bday at my mom's with just my mom, dad, brother (Godparent), his fiancee, my cousin (Godparent) and my Aunt. We also did the same at my MIL and FIL's with just us, the boys got to blow out candles on cakes at each and open presents it was great..their bday is the same week as Christmas so I didn't have to worry about throwing a party too.

I bet the boys now know they'll get tons of gifts in-between w/Birthday and Christmas! We really don't have any families left on both side with the exception of my FIL. My husband is the only child and I have an older brother I hardly see him. To this day, I have no idea where he live or what's he has been up to but I know I'll get a phone call some day. Both of my parents, grandparents, and etc are all gone! So, what I really meant, I am very fortunate to made many wonderful friendship through my play group and to help to celebrate my twins' 1st and 2nd birthday too.

    Thanks for sharing your story!

For the twins second birthday, we went smaller than their first. We just had family there. (Liam was only 3 weeks old at the time) We did a Winnie the Pooh theme, ordered pizzas and they played with their cousins. It's hard given that my kids have winter birthdays to come up with really creative birthdays. And I figure the "friend" birthdays will start soon enough given that they are entering pre-school this fall.

A big suggestion for this thread too, please check your locally photography places and get someone to come to the birthday party. They'll do a great job taking tons of pictures the entire day with a small fee but you don't have to pick the entire pictures (buy the proof and get a couple great pictures) is all you really need for keepsake.

I'm doing that this year for their 2nd birthday. She charged $40 dollars for a fee to come to the house and will take as many pictures. I'm seriously HIRE A PROFESSIONAL TO DO YOUR JOB!!!!!!!

Do you have pumpkin patches where you live? My twins 2nd birthday is October 6th and I am hoping to have the party at a local pumpkin patch farm where they have wagon rides and mazes etc. I forget the cost right now, but it includes 8 kids, a meal, craft if the weather is rainy, the ride, their pumpkin and a loot bag.

I am only keeping it small this year because it's canadian thanksgiving the weekend after and I don't want to see DH's family twice in that short span of time (I'll save that story for another day! )

We just had our 2nd birthday & didn't go with any theme, really. We just wanted low key & fun. So we reserved a covered area with picnic tables at a park that had lots of places for the kids to play, plus a little pond where they could feed the ducks & the guys could even go fishing. We made a huge batch of potato salad (since we invited about 56 people....and that's just family & close friends; I cut the list down from last year!) Took the BBQ and made hotdogs, hamburgers for everyone & watched the kids play. It was a blast!!

PS - I also took a roll of butcher paper & some thumbtacks to put on the picnic tables. Then I set out cups of crayons along them & people doodled on our 'tablecloths'. I actually think the adults colored more than the kids. ;)

For their 2nd birthday - we had a big party organized. The a.m. of the party, both were sick with fevers, and I had to cancel. Same thing last year and again this year. So have an alternate plan in place. Congrats on this milestone.
