tell me this isn't ironic

So as many of you know DH and I plan to ttc through IVF in the fall so we decided to start weaning with a July target date to be done. As of last week we were down to one nursing. Once we went up to the #2 nipples DS was less and less interested in nursing as it was work. DD held on strong but I she finally has resolved that the bottle and sippy cup are going to be her friends.

Last night was our final "drop" night. I handled it quite well which I was surprised by. I prepared for the last nursing for the twins and planned a long nurse for both of them. DD was sweet and cuddled up like usual. I felt guilty knowing she would never have that experience again. DS refused to nurse even with 2 tries. It was as though he was saying "it's OK mom, we'll be fine".

I did quite well as I tossed the nursing pillow to the basement for storage (after all with any luck #3 will be here before we know it).

Fast forward to today. DS has had a little runny nose and watery eyes for 2 days but nothing that was holding him back. This morning though he looked horrible so DH called the doc. He goes in, ear infection. Tell me that isn't ironic. The day we finish nursing he gets his first ear infection. BTW - neither of them were ever sick before even though both DH and I have had a couple rounds of colds/sinus things. Now both of them have colds (DH and I don't!). It just proves how important nursing is for immunity.

Keep up the good work ladies. I have all of you to thank for keeping me going in those early months. I can't believe how far I have come. I know I could have made it well past a year if we didn't want to ttc! Nursing has changed who I am as a person in a way that I don't think anything else could have. It made me a better mom, a better person and a better wife. I have so much to be thankful for and I truely believe that nursing helped save me from myself following our rough pregnancy and healed me in a way nothing else could have.

I love each of you in a very special way, you are all AMAZING women.

    Jen-
That was such a touching post :hug99: I can remember you posting in the early days, I could tell how much you wanted it to work, and KNEW you could do it!!!! You made it thru alot in these months :clapping:
As you said, hopefully soon you will be nursing again :good:

And FWIW both of mine got antibiotics (ear infection and pneumonia) right after we weaned too, the first (and hopefully only!) for them also.

Awww. That's really sweet and beautifully written. I can't believe it's been 9 months since your first posts, right as I was starting to visit the BF'ing forum regularly myself!!

Good luck with IVF! May it work quickly for you!

Love you too girl. I'm right here with you on weaning. I'm struggling, but the girls are doing fine. And yes, every sniffle I blame on less nursing. You did so well for your girls...can't wait to meet the new baby!

Very proud of you for all that hard work. I had some very blue days about a week or so after I had stopped so prepare yourself for that possiblilty and get someone in to help you if you do. A spa treatment is definately in order for you.
