I´ve just had one hell of a day!

DS is usually a happy-go-lucky baby who laughs and smiles his way through the days but lately he´s been ´off´. His appetite is great so I´m 99% sure he isn´t ill. However, he is grizzly, crying A LOT, gets bored of what he´s doing in 5 minutes and is generally hard work (poor thing). He´s also taken to screaming and shouting loudly. He also cries out a lot in his sleep during the night. Do these symptoms sound like teething to you? Has anyone experinced the same with their LOs?

DD is drooling loads and she is teething also but in a quieter manner! LOL!

Im using Bonjela and baby paracetamol plus giving him cold things to chew on, etc... I know there´s not much else I can do but ride it out but has anyone got some words of encouragement out there for me!?

I would switch to baby motrin, since it reduces swelling. You can begin giving this after 6 months old. Yes, teething does get better. For my LOs, serious pain your describing would go in spurts, not stay constant .

 I also would recommend Motrin, it really helped us. When my girls get fussy from teething it usually only lasts 2 days, max. I hope it's just as short in your son's case!

We're going through that now. Rose has cut two teeth and Alyssa finally cut her first yesterday. They've been 'on and off' for a little over a month. If it's bothering them a lot I give them some motrin.

You're not alone. Hang in there!

The fussiness from teething is a real hurdle to get through sometimes! Just hang in there. Besides giving him Motrin, or maybe Orajel, among things like frozen binkies or washclothes, it's pretty much just a wait it out time as much as it bothers him and you.

Like you I have one easy teether, and one troubled teether. Eli, the troubled teether, usually is worse well before the teeth break through, so maybe yours will be like that too. In fact, his tooth broke through today and it was even bleeding, and he was fine, but about 2 weeks ago he was a bear.

I hope you son feels better soon.

    Thanks girls :)

I live in Spain so I dont know what Motrin is. I give baby paracetamol which is a painkiller for babies. It seems to help him so does the Bonjela which is a gel for teething.

DS is still really grumpy. It´s day 2 of him being like this so I hope something pops through asap. He´s fine one minute then screaming blue murder the next. I find distraction works but combine it with tiredness and all hell breaks loose! He also scream to get attention so I think teething is to blame but also his character is creeping through! Ah the joys of motherhood ;)

    Thanks for sharing :)

Sounds like your baby paracetamol is like our baby tylenol. And your bonjela is like our oragel ^_^ I'm glad it's starting work for you. I know with mine, I hold the cranky - teething one if they're having a difficult time until the pain killer kicks in. They seem to be distracted/comforted by it.

Motrin is Ibuprofen which you need to give with food (or formula/breastmilk) or it can irritate the stomach.

I found the early teeth were the most painful especially for my one daughter. First thing when she woke up I gave her Tylenol (acetaminophen) and then 4 hours later I'd give the Motrin (Ibuprofen) which is good for 8 hours. Then 4 hours later I'd give another dose of Tylenol. (good for 4 hours) I found this middle dose of Motrin helped to last a bit longer.

Keeping on top of a schedule really helped with their pain control. They were much happier babies and their appetite was better. I didn't find the gel or the teethers or cloths to help us much. The pain isn't in the surface of the gums (teething gel) but it is in the bones moving under the gums which is the painful part.

it does get better. Try my routine for 2 days and then re-assess and see if it worked for them.

Teething does get better until the next round of teeth comes in. Like other posters I have one troubled teether (DS) and one who handles it easier (DD). My best advice is to do what you can to stay on top of the pain and grin and bear it. Teething is no fun.
