I posted a topic earlier this week about DS who was off his food and one poster suggested it might be teething.. Ive just had an awful morning with him and am ready to throw myself out the window.

He ate his 7am bottle no probs. However at 11am, he started to eat then rejected the bottle. To cut a long story short, the following hour was amade up of crying, more hysterical crying which ended up with me having to rock him to sleep in my arms. This was repeated after a 50 min catnap (he had wind in his tummy & couldnt get himself back to sleep. I was with DD so couldnt go to him immediately). He rejects his dummy but will drink cool water then reject it then take his dummy. I tried to look in his mouth and I think I saw some lumps/white there, but isn´t it a bit early??? He´s 5 months old. He had a restless night too & needed his dummy more than before. He also has this little "cough" which my book says can be a way for seeking attention???

Please could you share your teething symptoms and experiences with me. DS is crying again now. Gotta go...

    Thank you!

It could be teething. Will he chew on a cold wet washcloth?

Thanks for your reply. I discovered a little after posting this that it is teething. Well, I think it is. I gave him some water that was cold and he went crazy for it then rejected it. I went and bought some gel and also gave him paracetamol (its all I had). I also gave him my cold finger and he chomped down on it hard immediately. He had a bad day yesterday, it was horrible.

Feeding times are a nightmare, except the first one of the day, as he doesn´t want to eat (he starts then rejects it) then, as it takes so long to feed him, he cries and then gets overtired and cries even more. It ends up with me having to calm him in my arms and rocking him to semi-sleep as he can´t get to sleep as he´s so worked up. That and the wind is making my life a living hell at the moment but I know it´s not his fault!

I´ve been told teething comes and goes. I expect DD will start in a couple of weeks too as she tends to follow her brother´s footsteps!

I´m alone tonight and tomorrow morning and I just can´t relax thinking about what´s in store for me...

My older DD cut her first 2 teeth at 4 months, so I dont think its too early. The wet washcloth is great and maybe a frozen teething ring?

 I have one DD who is a HORRIBLE teether and the other doesn't bat an eyelash. So when your DD starts you may not even know it.

As for feeding, are you BF or bottle feeding? If bottle feeding, what nipple flow are you using? Maybe you can increase the flow so he can drink faster and not get frustrated. Sucking might hurt for him. I also do tylenol (paracetamol) and that seems to help. Make sure you have the correct dose though since its dependent on weight (call the pedi or nurse and they can tell you). Many  if the weather is nice can you take them out for a walk? Maybe he'll fall asleep in the stroller.

Where in the UK are you? My best friend lives in London and has a 6 month old (singleton)- I would make her go help you if you lived close by.

Im hoping this will be the case for me. I dont think I could cope if DD was like her brother! He´s the nervous, doesnt-like-to- be-alone type but she´s laid back and the leave-me-alone type!

I bottle feed and have tried different flows. He rejected the new teats so I had to cut the old one he was using, which I dont like doing as I think he swallows more air. He´s very impatient. Yesterday, I put the teat in the fridge for a bit before feeding him and it worked but for a short time. Feeding is a battle and it ends up with him crying, the poor thing, and having to feed him in semi-dark with a little cloth covering his eyes. He gets so worked up and he´s afraid he´s going to miss something so he fights sleep! He´s a catnapper too.

Im from the UK but I live in Spain (DH is Spanish). I used to live in London though. I miss my family. MIL is here a lot so I get used to her being here and when she leaves I feel lost as she likes to do it all. She´s not my mum though and that does make a difference.

Thank you for your kind words :) I feel quite alone, being a twin mum here where I live, and have few friends with one baby. I´d be lost without this site!
